Westwater Role-Playing Game (Canceled)
Westwater is a wild west retroclone of Tom Moldvay's basic/expert ruleset, containing rules for either a historical or fantasy style
Hi, and thank you for your time in showing interest in this project!
What is Westwater?
Westwater is a retroclone rpg based off of Tom Moldvay's B/X ruleset, set in the wild west of North America. Because it's a retroclone using the OGL B/X rules, it is completely compatible with any other B/X game.
Styles of Play
There are two supported styles of play include in the book: Historical and Fantasy. Historical allows you to emulate the wild west as it was historically. No magic, no elves, no monsters. Fantasy allows you to play in the wild west setting, but includes elves, dwarves, magic, monsters, you name it. In the rules, there will be basic maps and setting descriptions for the historical style of play. However, the meat of the campaign setting will revolve around the Fantasy style of play, and the areas, creatures, and personalities to be encountered will be more thoroughly detailed.
The primary purpose of this project is to raise funds for professional interior artists and editors. I really want to make sure a quality product, from all angles, is produced. Eric Lofgren has already agreed to do the bulk of the interior work. You'll be hard pressed to find a better artist than he. His work can be found here.
The reward tier is to the right hand side, and includes some really good options. Additionally, if we meet our goal, there are some stretch goals that are already in the works:
One of the biggest concerns among supporters (and a very legitimate concern), is getting what you pledged for. Rest assured, you will get your product if this project is successful. I've had a successful kickstarter in the past and everyone has gotten what they pledged for. I've contracted out to dozens of artists over the years, and have a reputation of being extremely reliable and timely.
Thank you all again, very much!
A new $100 reward has been added. In addition to the normal $100 reward, you also get a free retail boxed set of DieHard Gamefan's Best New Game of the Year, 2011: Compact Heroes!
Risks and challenges
Artist contracts: I've worked with Eric before, so I am confident he won't take the money and run. Even so, the full contract(s) won't be paid in full until receipt of artwork.
In the event of a hugely successful project that creates more work than Eric can handle, additional artists have already been lined up to assist.
Printing of the books will be done through Lightning Source.
