HAS KANE MESMER LOST HIS MAGIC TOUCH?
There are two sides to every ability. You have to take the good with the bad. A man who can stop time for those around him ages at a normal rate whilst those frozen do not age at all. Invisibility means others can't see you, the light passing through your body. But if light passes through your body then it passes through your retina too and you are blind.
The Blessed / Cursed imprint of Accent UK is captured in a number of one shots. Each focussing on a different ability and telling a complete story about a character who can do the extra ordinary.
The first 'Whatever Happened To The World's Fastest Man?' tells the story of Bobby Doyle who can freeze time.
With art from Marleen Lowe this title, written by Dave West, won the Eagle Award in 2010 for Best British Black and White Comic, with Marleen showing frozen time in exquisite pencil work.
Bobby has a big decision to make, does he walk away from an impending disaster or does he use his power to save everyone who would be effected by it, at great cost to himself.
This was followed up a year or so later with 'Missing: Have You Seen The Invisible Man?'
Illustrated this time by Joe Campbell this self contained story from Dave West follows James Williams as he develops a formula that renders him invisible. But things never turn out how you expect them to.
The third, and latest, 'Has Kane Mesmer Lost His Magic Touch?' reunites the creative team behind Fastest Man. Marleen Lowe and Dave West bring another one shot that this time follows Detective Jason Donaldson as he investigates a murder. A murder that involves celebrity magician Kane Mesmer.
Kane Mesmer who lives a life that is very different to that of the Detective. But then Kane Mesmer is famous, using his skills as a stage magician to great effect. Skills that are actually to result of Kane Mesmer using magic for real.
How can the Detective solve a crime that uses a murder weapon that defies scientific means to identify. Well, the Detective has a trick of his own.
This Kickstarter is for the new issue in the Blessed / Cursed imprint 'Has Kane Mesmer Lost His Magic Touch?' but also offers the opportunity to support the creation of a Kickstarter special limited edition Blessed / Cursed one shot about the owner of an antique shop who uses an African tribal Vengeance Mask to bloody effect. Written by Dave West and illustrated by Barry Renshaw, this Late Edition of The Accent will contain the 14 greyscale page main story and an additional 5 page Bobby Doyle story that is a prequel to 'Whatever Happened To The World's Fastest Man?'
The cover is still in development but here's an internal page from Barry...
and Marleen Lowe...
This Late Edition comic, 'Record bid returns rare Vengeance Mask to African home.' will not be available outside of Kickstarter.
TRY BEFORE YOU BACK.
As we move into the last 2 weeks of the campaign and we've still not reached the target I thought it might be a good idea for you to be able to read some of the pages, to see if it's your kind of thing and if you can be tempted.
Here then are the first 4 pages of Has Kane Mesmer Lost His Magic Touch?
and the first 4 pages of my other collaboration with artist Marleen Lowe, Whatever Happened To The World's Fastest Man?
and some review comments
Hope something in that lots tempts you... : o )
