My goal for this installation is for the public to engage in a magnificent surreal experience and get them thinking outside of the box. I will be creating a surreal eye catching display to have the town talking and people want to come and see. During the day families will walk by with their children and take pictures, they will be intrigued by the colors and unique canvas used. At night time it turns into a different vision, with crazy shadows and intense colors which will be enhanced by the black lights used, hoping my location will have use of electric. The people get inspired, they laugh, they think it's fun, creative, unique.
Riverhead is already a majestic town, filled with history and culture. I feel it's our job as jumpstART artists to help bring out the beauty that is around every corner. On August 8th the town will take part in a creative placemaking process that will make locals and visitors want to stay and see more, even if just for one day to make people of all income levels and ages celebrate their town and invite strangers to experience art and culture for free. We need to rediscover Riverhead!
Risks and challenges
The challenges for this project is the location and the making of the stands for each individual horseshoe crab to hold. I am planning on hand crafting them which takes time as well as money. I also want to be able to concentrate on the art itself, this should be number one. The funds received from this campaign will go toward materials such as the different types of epoxy I use and the wood and paint I need to create the stands. This project is all about creative placemaking and this is the first time it will be done in Riverhead. Luckily the town has been more than helpful and appreciative of us artists and what we are trying to accomplish. I am so thrilled and honored to be a part of this and although it will be time consuming the end results exceeds any doubt in my mind that this project will be nothing but awesome!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
