About this project
The American dream has failed: in truth, it never worked for housewives, mothers and daughters. One line in The Feminine Mystique by Betty Friedan 50 years ago inspired the making of my movie. I also saw how much is still the same. After reading that life changing book, I tried to look for more about mothers on television, in woman studies departments and didn’t find what I needed.
There is not a fully developed documentary about mothers as An American Housewife today. My goal is to honor, encourage, inspire and empower women. The footage is provocative, motivational and smart. This is a character/subject driven film that will be used to move audiences to action in their own lives and ultimately, will change the world. I am proud to be a filmmaker on the fringe. Characters and Subjects are driving the narrative of the documentary. Since they know my integrity and my intentions, they trust me with their onscreen lives and share it with the audience and together we experience varied levels of “aha moments” and see the possibility of what our reality can be.
We follow and get to know a diverse set of American housewives, both working and stay at home, interview experts and scholars that can delve further. We will see what brings together these women, despite the issues that try to define them.
Our team will be looking at all of our footage with a feminist lens and offer solutions and ideas that come from real women and experts that know us best.
I am on a journey to chronicle what real women are like, not the way they are represented in the media and American pop-culture, or by the issues that plague them. In our modern culture of technology, we can research anything and everything. But, we have to know where to look and what to look for. The careful research and information in this film is what your average person doesn’t access or even realize.
The film is born but not complete - I need your help.

Risks and challenges
The biggest challenges I have had so far is support and how to supplement the movie. Since it is so important to women's lives, I started with an idea, some pre-production and my grants. So far, I filmed housewives, experts and important events. I have a few more left to film out of state. The goal amount of $4129 is the bare minimum I need to film which would include travel, renting equipment and paying for any extra crew needed. If I could raise more than this, I can go into production right away and set up the blog, set up the editing and go into post production.
I do not want to lose the experts and housewives I have not filmed yet. They are all excited about the project. The story has led me to them. With at least my goal, I can finish filming and start the editing process. With more, I can hire the editors, finish post production, and market the documentary.
It is our goal to document feminist history and give a voice and imagery not in mainstream to the modern mother in America. We intend to share this film in so many ways possible beginning with grassroots efforts: schools, libraries, community groups, feminist organizations, local and public tv, cable and in theatres. We will start with festivals, screenings and use reviews from those venues to get out this film in as many places as possible.
Please help me by pledging to this movie and spreading the word by social media, email and just starting a conversation.
