***NOTE*** This is a second chance campaign. I ran a 45-day campaign to raise $27,990 for this album; I fell short, raising $14,810 in pledges. The purpose of this second chance campaign is to reclaim those pledges, plus (hopefully) a little more.
I've slashed the promotional and equipment budget down to what I feel are the bare essentials. The new goal is $16,175. This is a reduction of almost $12,000 off the original goal.
While I had to remove some things that I felt would ultimately benefit this album's exposure, I kept the most important component: the Powderfinger Promotions campaign (see below).
If everyone who pledged the first time repeats their initial pledge, I will need $1,365 in additional pledges. I believe that this is a reasonable target. Please note that there is no maximum amount that can be raised; if pledges exceed the new goal of $16,175, the additional amount raised will go to cover items that were in the initial plan but had to be excluded this time.
What follows is my description of the initial campaign. A full project plan, along with budgetary figures, is available by emailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I'm currently working on my follow-up to my 2007 debut album, Umbrella Man, which received excellent reviews worldwide and was a strong first step in launching my career as an international recording artist. Since the release ofUmbrella Man I have been honing my chops as a live performer and writing more material, while raising my three amazing children with my lovely wife in my hometown of Jackson, Mississippi.
My new album is entitled Going Somewhere. I've completed recording and mixing on about 30% of this album, and I'm very excited about it. Musically, it's a mix of rock, "jam", funk, blues, soul, country and many other styles; lyrically, it's an exploration of where we are all going... physically, metaphysically, and more.
In order to complete this record and promote it, I need to raise a fairly substantial amount of funding. These funds are needed to complete the production of the album itself -- recording, mastering, artwork and reproduction -- as well as marketing the album.
This amount includes the funds required to complete all recording and to master and manufacture the album itself. It also includes the fees required to engage the services of Powderfinger Promotions, one of the top radio promotion companies in my genre. David Avery, the president of Powderfinger, also manages the prestigious Jambands.com radio charts, a key connection for the success of the new album. Powderfinger will also handle publicity for the album, pushing it to print and online music sources.
Powderfinger has relationships with over 600 College, AAA, Americana, Jazz, and Jamband stations across the U.S. and Canada, and hundreds of press contacts. They were also voted the College Radio Promoter of the Year for 2007 & 2008 at the New Music Awards, and they promoted the #1 Jazz Albums of the year at CMJ for 2006, 2007 and 2008. Artists they have promoted nationally include Steve Winwood, India.Arie, Blind Boys of Alabama, Dresden Dolls, 311, Sixpence None The Richer, Gov't Mule, Ben Harper, Janis Ian, Widespread Panic, and many more.
The marketing portion of the funds also include the purchase of promotional materials like t-shirts and stickers, [and pays for some additional promotional efforts here and in Europe (with European efforts led by Peter Holmstedt of Hemifran [www.hemifran.com], who did an excellent job on Umbrella Man).] NOTE: I have deferred these efforts for this round of fundraising.
A FULL PROSPECTUS of how these funds will be spent is available by emailing me at email@example.com. You can see my bio by visiting my Facebook page at:
I am very grateful to each of you for even considering this funding request, and I hope to see you on tour somewhere!
P.S. Many thanks to my friend Jonathan Yargates for producing the video.
