This is a journey through the love letters of Michelangelo Buonarroti and Tommaso Cavalieri.
Thank you all for you support. I am still needing some more donations. Any amount will help and please keep in mind you will not be charged until my project is successfully funded. Please give whatever you can. Tell your friends, family, everyone you know.
WHAT THIS DOCUMENTARY IS ABOUT:
This documentary explores the history behind the love letters of Michelangelo Buonarroti and Tommaso Cavalieri. "Of An Armed Cavalier" dives into history with a modern lens and reveals the significance of understanding how homoerotic relationships have, or have not, developed throughout history. Bringing the homoerotic art of Michelangelo to life, I follow a journey through Italy exploring the dynamic between these two men; discovering the themes of love, passion, and revealing how these letters are timeless, transcendent and sensual. Michelangelo was the pedagogy of Tommaso, and in fact, become a great stimulus in furthering my own education and interest in their relationship and those that have transpired to create and influence great works throughout history.

MY JOURNEY SO FAR:
A year ago I began a project that started in Italy; the cities of Rome
and Florence were my main focus. I went on a journey following the
incredible works of Michelangelo, discovering more about myself as
well as the life of Michelangelo. I made this journey into a
documentary titled "Of An Armed Cavalier."
After returning to the United States, a friend and I went to New York
City where I interviewed James Saslow a professor at Queens
University, for the documentary that I was working on in Italy. After
New York, I traveled to Cambridge, Massachusetts and visited Harvard
University and viewed one of Michelangelo's drawings which is in
storage. The drawing is called "The Rape of the Ganymede". I was
able to get a personal showing of the drawing. My journey then took
me to Saint Louis, Missouri where I visited Washington University in
order to interview William Wallace, an art historian. Both professors
have written books on Michelangelo's letters that he wrote to Tommaso
Cavalieri. Michelangelo drew "The Rape of the Ganymede" for Tommaso. I
visited Michelangelo's original home in Florence where the letters are
located. My documentary is a journey following the letters between
these two men.
This all started from love. Love comes in many forms and has complexities that one can barely understand. This explores love that was lost and understanding its mysteries.
WHY IS THIS STORY IMPORTANT?
This documentary is important because it reminds us that all people want the same thing, to be loved. Throughout history homosexuality has had many reputations, definitions and regulations from the law but still, in all those times, love existed. It's important that these stories of forbidden loves get told. That these affairs get celebrated and remembered. This documentary is not only about Michelangelo and Tommaso but also about searching and understanding love and homosexuality. This documentary is about finding ones own pedagogy.

WHAT WE WILL DO WITH THE MONEY.
This documentary has gotten to be an expensive one to make and its still not done!!! The money from the donations go towards audio mixing, travel fees, copyrights, publicity and exhibitions. Money will also go for people's assistance throughout the film. Funds would also go to hosting premiers and screenings as well as traveling with the film to speak on the films behalf.
I am really hoping to get this documentary into as many festivals as possible, but I have run out of funds. This is an important piece to me and really explores and humanizes homosexuality. It is important as a filmmaker to distribute your work but this cannot happen without your help.
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU GO OVER $5,000?
Well, this project started out with a short documentary in mind but after traveling to Italy and seeing people's reaction to this documentary, I would really like to make it a feature. The $5,000 will pay for professional audio mixing, distribution and clearance rights. That alone will be be a little over $5,000. If we get more than what we are asking for, we will only continue to further this journey and make this documentary as big as we possibly can.
So if I don't make the quota of $5,000 then I do not get any of the money.
Whatever you can do to donate is greatly appreciated. This documentary has come too far to stop now and we are really needing your help.
