Super Galaxy Knights Deluxe R is a webcomic series about characters harnessing their emotions, creativity, and self-acceptance to create and use their magic abilities. It's an action comedy series, inspired heavily by both western superhero comics and shonen battle manga.
Super Galaxy Knights Deluxe FightR is a fighting game based off the webcomic, designed to be as similar to the webcomic's style as possible while keeping its own flair. It's a 2.5D tag-team fighting game, in a similar vein to the Marvel vs Capcom series, the King of Fighters series, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and many other games like them. One unique aspect of FightR is the inclusion of variable team sizes - a mechanic which is reminiscent of Skullgirls.
In Super Galaxy Knights Deluxe FightR, you can have anywhere from one to five fighters per team. With more fighters, you gain the ability to tag, but you have less health and energy per character to work with.
Interested? Well, you can play a demo version of the game right now!
Note: Certain inputs in the game require three button presses at once, which many keyboards cannot handle. If this is the case for your keyboard (you can test on the input screen), you will need to connect a capable keyboard or a controller to play.
In the full game, there will be the option to create macros for special moves and ultimates, so you can play with any input type.
Lots of things in the world are silly, particularly when the Super Galaxy Knights series is involved.
Besides, with a webcomic called "Super Galaxy Knights Deluxe R", who would pass up a naming opportunity like this?
To make sure the project is completed, the scope will be kept as small as possible for a fighting game of this type, but the players will still get a large amount of content.
The plan is to have eight playable characters (including the three you see in the demo) in the game. This may not seem like much, but because of the tag team gameplay, and the variable team sizes, there will be over 200 possible team combinations to choose from!
Each character will be fully voice acted - and the majority will have unique interactions with each other at the beginning and end of matches.
The game will also be full of unlockable cosmetics. Each character will have at least 20 costumes! Many of these will be simple palette swaps like you can see in the demo, but a large portion of them will be complete model changes (for example, Teen Pejiba from this page could be a potential costume).
There will also be four stages to fight on, including the one in the demo. Each stage will have unique finishers, along with a ton of destructible elements!
Also, music! There will be over a dozen songs in the game, most of which will be unlockable.
There will also be various modes in the game:
First, there's the basic VS Fighting mode, where you can face either a human opponent or an AI challenge in a single battle.
Next, there will be an Arcade mode, to create a simple single-player experience. The Arcade mode will have nine difficulties, to give a challenge to those who are up to it.
Finally, there will be two Online Battle modes. The first will be a mode where you can face friends from around the world, in battles similar to the VS Fighting mode. The second will be a ranked battle mode against strangers, where you can prove your might as the strongest FightR on Earth!
The game will be playable on PC, Mac, and Linux. The current plan is to release through on the Steam store, through the Steam Direct program. However, releasing outside of Steam is also an option. There are currently no plans to release on other platforms.
Additionally, the game will get support with free character and/or mode additions for at least one year after release, in addition to patches for at least two years!
Of course, what would a fighting game be without fighters? So, without further ado...
A small woman from a small town - with big dreams. Mizuki's upper body strength is unparalleled (except for the currently four people in the series who parallel her), but her attacks are slow, and she has issues with range.
To compensate, she uses magic! Mizuki doesn't have any magic ability of her own, so she makes do by copying the techniques of the friends and enemies she's met along her journey.
This comes at the cost of a much higher energy drain than the original users of the techniques - so if you play with Mizuki on your team, you'll definitely want to tag often. Still, her variety gives her a huge advantage over other fighters. For example, she can combo Ice Arrow into Wind Rush into Electric Shock, dealing a huge amount of damage very quickly!
ONE-STAR ULTIMATE - Max Power Rush. Mizuki rushes forward and launches a combo with all her strength!
TWO-STAR ULTIMATE - I'm Rubber, You're Glue. A technique Mizuki copied from a gangster named Kindergartener. Mizuki forces her opponent to use their One-Star Ultimate on her, then reflects the damage she took back at them!
THREE-STAR ULTIMATE - Super Knockoff Cannon. Mizuki combines Pejiba's Knockoff Cannon technique with Electric Zebra's Electric Shock technique, creating a massive energy wave!
A medium-sized man from a medium-sized village. Cahe is trained in the art of the sword, and envisions himself as a literal knight in literal shining armor.
Cahe's sword lets him deal good damage, and his armor makes him a strong tank, but his movements are incredibly slow.
Cahe's magic ability, created from the love inside of him, lets him shoot beams out of his sword. These beams will cut through anything - slicing straight through projectiles and ignoring block. However, the beams won't make your opponent flinch. Use Cahe's special moves when you need to deal some extra ranged damage!
ONE-STAR ULTIMATE - Critical Stab. A Holoclone-ending (don't ask) technique that deals heavy damage in a single short-range hit.
TWO-STAR ULTIMATE - Ultimate Combination. This ultimate is difficult to connect with, but if Cahe manages it, he'll deal massive damage in a multi-hit sword combo!
THREE-STAR ULTIMATE - Power of Love. Cahe charges up all of his magic into his sword for one screen-spanning slash. Angle the move as you aim to hit airborne opponents!
A tall woman from the big city. Pejiba's parents were murdered when she was a child. She obtained her magic ability of shooting plasma, and developed techniques with it in order to enact her vengeance.
Pejiba has a lot of range, and both her normal attacks and special moves deal a lot of damage. Her plasma techniques have a lot of variety, with balls, beams, rectangular waves, and more!
ONE-STAR ULTIMATE - Homing Attack. Pejiba does some quick hand motions and shoots out six plasma balls which home in on her opponent.
TWO-STAR ULTIMATE - Supercharger. Pejiba concentrates her plasma into her body, enhancing her power for a few seconds.
THREE-STAR ULTIMATE - Ultra Blast. Pejiba charges up a plasma wave with both hands and blasts it out, dealing massive amounts of damage.
As the campaign progresses, you will get more details on the other playable characters - including ones that aren't even in the demo!

As for my own experience...
I have a decade of experience in hobby game development, over fifteen years of experience in music, and I have been creating visual artwork on and off my entire life. I also have had multiple contract jobs in game development fields - so this is absolutely something I am serious about.
What you see in the demo is pretty much what's been done. Preproduction is finished, so the designs of all the characters, stages, and modes in the base game are planned out, and there is a working prototype.
However, there is still much work to be done! There are 3D models for all the planned playable characters (already in use as references for the webcomic), but they have no animations done. Many of the songs are completed, but there are still more to be done. The voice actors are not yet cast. There also needs to be a lot more polishing work done to make the game presentable.
So the framework and engine of the game are done, but now everything else needs to get done too. That's why now is the perfect time to hop on and support this project!
I could continue working on this game as a hobby as I have done for everything else Snuffysam Media has produced, sure. The only issue is, this game is going to have a larger scope than any of the other games on the site. To complete it in a timely matter, I need to be able to work on it full-time.
And that requires money. For, like, food. And rent.
The project also requires money for hiring voice actors, creating a marketing campaign, and other expenses in making sure this game gets off the ground as smoothly and professionally as possible. In short, the game cannot be made for free.
So why not go to a publisher instead? Simply put, a developer working under a publisher must submit to the decisions of that publisher, and it would limit creative freedom on the project. Additionally, Super Galaxy Knights Deluxe R isn't some syndicated graphic novel series. It's been community supported since the beginning, and it's only fair that the community gets to decide how far this franchise will progress rather than a publisher.
NOTE: For fans of Super Galaxy Knights Deluxe R - working full time on the project will not negatively impact the release schedule of the webcomic. I was able to consistently put out three pages per week while going to school as a full time student and working on this project part-time, and I will be able to do the same when working on this project as my sole job.
If you aren't already enticed enough to support Super Galaxy Knights Deluxe FightR, there are plenty of rewards to pique your interest further. Such as...

Because what would a Kickstarter campaign be without stretch goals, right?
NOTE: Funding stretch goals will increase the time of development (hence the extra money needed). As a backer, you will remain informed on the game's production time throughout its development.
Now, if the stretch goals aren't reached, that doesn't mean they won't ever happen - they just won't happen in the base game. You could still potentially see these additions in some of the free updates that were mentioned earlier.

Risks and challenges
Game development is difficult. Trust me, I know. I've spent years on projects that went nowhere, and I've completed projects that I'm not proud of looking back. Sometimes a mechanic needs to be iterated on many times before it's ready. Some aspect of the game may take much longer to develop than anticipated. Maybe an entire character just isn't fun to play as or against, and needs to be reworked. It happens!
With this project, the biggest risk is that Super Galaxy Knights Deluxe FightR takes longer than expected - and thus, requires more money than expected. If the production truly is in jeopardy, I will partner with a publisher to make sure the game gets completed.
My intention is for this project and future projects to be my livelihood, so it will be released, no matter what it takes. Fans of the Super Galaxy Knights series know that I am able to have unwavering devotion to a project, and this is no different.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
