What is Vavo?
Vavo is an ultra portable universal smart phone and smart device accessory. It has 2 simple functions, propping your device at a variety of angles and mounting your device on flat vertical surfaces for viewing purposes. As a result you can watch movies, capture steady photos, video conference, have a visual cooking aide and much, much more. Our smart devices go everywhere with us now so can Vavo.
Vavo is for your phones, MP3 players, small cameras and much more!!!
What devices work with Vavo?
Vavo will work with smart devices (smartphones, MP3 players or small cameras) that have enough of a flat surface to attach to. Most smart devices will work with Vavo when used as a stand. If your device is curved or has humps it could limit the surface area for Vavo to make contact - The more surface area the better available for contact the better. Also if your device is very textured or is silicone or rubber based then Vavo's hold could be reduced. This can be solved by using a case that isn't textured or rubbery in nature. We have a vertical viewing position weight limit of 160-170g for optimal efficiency (most smart devices weigh between 85-145g). Here is a video example of some devices working with Vavo:
Our use of smart phones has evolved over time. We wanted an accessory that could enhance the experience of using our devices any and everywhere. There are many other small stands currently available but they restrict you to only one or two angles and are usually device specific - We set out to change that by creating a truly universal accessory to enhance your smart phone experience.
It took several iterations and prototypes but we now have a very compact universal design we are very happy with. Vavo goes every where your smart phones goes and will fit in your pocket, purse, bag or on a key chain.
Vavo vertical mounting
We wanted to push the envelope for small stands/accessories and create a device that could go everywhere with you and give more functionality to your phone. So we also designed Vavo to work on "smooth stationary vertical" surfaces. The The time lapse video below shows Vavo mounted on a mirror with an iPhone 4 (weighs about 140g) placed on it for viewing purposes. We used an iPad 3 to take pictures every 3 minutes. We have a vertical viewing position weight limit of 160-170g for optimal efficiency (most devices weigh between 85 -145g). When in this position you can still use your device by taking it off and place it back once you are ready for viewing again. Here is the video:
Vavo as customized promotional units
Vavo's ultra portable size makes it the perfect gift for anyone who uses a smart phone, mp3 player or small camera. Its also ideal for promotional items in any industry from government, small businesses, restaurants, schools, conferences, realtors and the list is endless. More information and examples on update #3.
Here are a few eProof examples:
What is Vavo made from?
Vavo will be made from hard plastic and a specially formulated sticky pad. This pad sticks to more surfaces than a suction cup or magnet, is reusable, reliable and leaves no residue (as seen in our last two projects - Capta and Foco).
Final Product Rendering
Vavo will sport Kickstarter colors of black and green.
For video conferencing just attach Vavo to the base of your phone and the wide base will keep your phone steady and upright. For multiple angles just attach Vavo to different locations on the back of your device and use the micro extending kickstand.Due to Vavos small size you will always be able to access and use your device at will.
What stage is Vavo at now?
The Vavo design has been finalized and we have all elements needed to advance to final product samples and then proceed with manufacturing. We have also picked a manufacturer who is primed to begin manufacturing. Vavo will be made using injection molding. We need to have molds made for both the Vavo parts and the sticky pads. This is an expensive process and that’s why we need the support of Kickstarter backers.
Thanks to our Kickstarter backers we were able to successfully bring our first product, Capta to market. Our second project Foco is currently fully funded. Now we are here hoping to make Vavo an incredible option for smart phone/device users and with the help of Kickstarter backers we can make that a reality.
We believe that Kickstarter is an amazing avenue for a start up like UDS to showcase our products and receive feedback from backers prior to bringing them to market. In our last two projects we have involved backers in many aspects of our products and have used the feedback to fine tune and improve our products. We look forward to doing this with Vavo as well. Thank you for your support. Cheers!!
Thanks to Tim McMorris for such an awesome song titled "Give our dreams the wings to fly". Cheers!!!
Devices with flat surfaces work best with Vavo. Especially for the portrait mode use Vavo - as shown in the video - is attached to the bottom portion of the device so a flat surface is best for optimal use. Most phones have flat surfaces when used in landscape so this is less of an issue here. The more surface contact the better. So use this as a guideline for your device. Thanks again for your time and support. Cheers!!
Vavo was designed to be used repeatedly on your device - simply stick it, remove when you are done and repeat when you need again. There will be no residue on your device. Make sure to clean your device before applying Vavo so there is no transfer of dirt to the Vavo pad. Thanks again for your time and support. Cheers!!
Most smart phones weigh between 85 to 145 grams. Vavo has a limit of 160-170 grams for the vertical mount use. We wanted to keep Vavo as small as possible while still pushing the envelope with this vertical mode. Thanks again for your time and support. Cheers!!
The pad is a specially formulated polyurethane (PU) material that sticks to most surfaces, is reusable and leaves no residue. We picked this material because it is versatile and extremely durable. In our last Capta and Foco projects, we used the same type of PU pad with excellent results. Our PU pad sticks to more surfaces than a suction cup and works in more situations. Refreshing and removing built up debris and dirt from the pad can easily be performed using running water and allowing the pad to air dry. This is not a new technology as similar products exist in the medical industry such as reusable pads used for heart monitoring, physical therapy, etc. It truly is an amazing material. Thanks again for your time and support. Cheers!!
Light cleaning would be using a damp lint free cloth (lint covers surface and reduces grip) to wipe the pad. Medium cleaning would be running the pad under water and using your fingers to remove any dirt or debris on the pad. If any oils or greasy materials or liquids have gotten on Vavo then you could use a mild soap and water to clean the pad. The most important step is to allow Vavo to dry completely before using again after any of the cleaning steps above. Thank you again.
Vavo was not designed for use as a car mount/gps which is why there is no shot like that in the project video. The goal for Vavo was to create an ultra portable device that could transition with you throughout the day in many different "on the go" situations.
We designed it to work on smooth stationary vertical surfaces simply as a viewing stand and not vertical surfaces in motion like cars, trains or airplanes - too many variables involved. The logistics required for use with moving surfaces in the vertical position would require additional structures and we would not have been be able to make Vavo this small and portable. We are working on different project to tackle surfaces in motion.
