Update: Thank you so very much to everyone who donated - we've reached our goal! Because of you, we're now one step closer to having a great sounding film.
For those of you who haven't donated yet, don't fret, we still need your help! Movies can be expensive and your contributions will go towards making sure our film turns out great. If we can reach $2,000 by Jan 19th, we'll send everyone who contributes a link to a special video where we talk you through five great films you probably haven't seen, all available on Netflix. Thought the original Kickstarter video was pretty great? You ain't seen nothin' yet...
Thanks again for your support, and don't forget to share our project!
The Opportunist is a short film about a night in the life about a charismatic young man who's able to charm his way in - and out - of nearly any situation. When he finds his way into a college party where he doesn't belong, we watch him effortlessly navigate the social scene - to ends that may be less pure than we originally thought.
We've already raised a significant portion of the funding we'll need to make The Opportunist look great - now we're asking for your help to make it sound great. Since the majority of the film takes place at a house party, we'll need to recreate that feeling - you know, the sound of the bass thumping through the wall, or clatter of a full-fledged party happening just across the way.
WHY SPEND ALL THIS MONEY ON SOUND?
It's hard to appreciate all the work that goes into great-sounding media. Great sound - both recording on set and mixing afterwards - will help boost the project's prospects at prestigious film festivals around the country and internationally.
Your money will go to:
Production Sound: Getting a crisp, clean recording on set is essential to ensuring we get a professional-grade final sound mix.
Foley Artist: Recreating all those little sound effects that help bring the world of the movie to life.
Composer: A DJ can make or break the party. Our composer will have to pump out some truly classic jams.
Sound Mixing: Making sure all the elements, the dialogue, the sound effects, the music, blend seamlessly so it sounds like you're right inside the action.
David Lassiter, Writer/Director - David grew up in Silver Spring, MD and studied filmmaking at Northwestern University in Chicago. He moved to Los Angeles in 2008, where he has worked as a free-lance writer, director, and cinematographer. David's last film, Like A Good Neighor, was named "Best Thriller" at the St. Louis Filmmaker's Showcase. See more of his work at: www.davidlassiterfilm.com
Alberto Roldan, Producer - Alberto is an Emmy-nominated filmmaker, having gotten the nod for his work on an anti-bullying Public Service Announcement done in conjunction with the Nashville Predators and STARS Nashville. He has directed and produced commercials, music videos, documentaries and live theater in Chicago, Nashville, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Nick Clifford, Actor - Nick has landed roles in popular shows like The Big Bang Theory and 2 Broke Girls. He also played the leading role in the Disney pilot, Pack of Wolves. Nick studied economics at Brown University, but realized he was much better at charming his way in and out of parties, so he became an actor.
Risks and challenges
We strongly believe in The Opportunist and in the team we’ve assembled to bring it to life, but sadly, belief can’t get us all the way there. Easily one of our biggest challenges will be making this movie sound great – and trust us, it’s going to sound great – but without your help, we simply won’t be able to afford the skilled technicians and artists we need to bring our acoustic vision to life.
We feel confident that The Opportunist will be a strong competitor at the festival circuit in 2013, but without sound, we run the risk of getting lost in an increasingly competitive field. In short, locking down funds now will ensure that we can move ahead with our scheduled shoot dates in February and successfully hit our goal of finishing the film by April, 2013. We can’t wait for you to see (and hear) the movie!
And feel free to reach out! Contact Alberto Roldan firstname.lastname@example.org - with any questions.
