About this project
Facing foes on the western frontiers of the Byzantine Empire, the Emperor Anastasias in around 500 A.C.E. makes a bold move. He constructs a long defensive wall (approximately 50 Kilometers) from the Marmara to the Black sea for the protection of the richest city of the time and his capital—Constantinople (modern day Istanbul.) Forgotten for about fifteen centuries, a significant portion still stands, its stones giving testimony to a once rich and powerful Empire. But, its story has not been told and its mysteries remain to be unraveled.
The non-profit documentary firm of AV Studio which is composed of a dedicated international team from academia, art and cinema is in the process of filming and editing of a five episode documentary -"The Long Anastasian Wall". In it experts (historians, archaeologists and geographers) will uncover an intriguing story of a time when the Western Roman Empire and Rome itself was fading away and the Eastern (later known as Byzantium) was ascending. But, the documentary does not restrict itself with just inspecting the architectural framework of the this monument, but analyzes the overall economic, political, ecological environment of that time, and other aspects of life in the Byzantine Empire during the Anastasian – Justinian periods (at the end of 5th century to the beginning of the 6th) --regarded by historians as the golden age of the East Roman Empire. It also delves into the archeological findings; the present unique social and environmental conditions that surround the Anastasian Wall, and its future. This is not your normal dry documentary, but is a creative venture to synthesize art, archeology, history, cinematography, animation and music.
The team is seeking donations to assist us in this cinematic vehicle whose ultimate goal is to increase the awareness of the global community so that the Anastasian Wall can be further protected and restored. By contributing to this documentary, you are making sure that the next generations can contemplate this architectural monument and an era that has long since passed.
Specifically, we are in need of funds for updating our software, enriching it with new plug-ins as well as to meet the costs of the 3D effects, animation and post-production services.
