Vote Dog books and Is It Food shirt now on sale! (Plus, a cool new Kickstarter project to check out!)

Posted by Make That Thing (Creator)

Hi, team! Thanks for all the kind words about your Vote Dog books. I'm really happy with how they turned out, and I'm glad so many of you are enjoying them!

Starting today, Vote Dog books are now available to purchase in my online store! So if you missed the Kickstarter, or know anyone else who needs Vote Dog in their life, you can nab a copy there.

And if you're interested, I also launched a brand new Is It Food t-shirt today, based on one of everyone's fav Vote Dog comics. I had fun coming up with a version that worked nicely as a shirt design -- I actually completely redrew all the art!

Cool New Kickstarter Comics Project

Before I go today, I wanted to shout out a cool comics project currently on Kickstarter: The Dead Deception, by Kel MacDonald! It's a murder mystery set in a future fantasy world, staring a human detective and her new werewolf partner -- the first open werewolf detective on the force.

I know a lot of you folks are fans of my other comic, Sam and Fuzzy... which means I know you are into black-and-white comics set in worlds where the supernatural and mundane get mashed together and crimes happen. And I also know a lot of you are fans of Kel's earlier Can I Pet Your Werewolf anthology project, because a whole lot of you discovered Vote Dog when Kel plugged it in a Werewolf update! So I'd be nuts not to point you towards her new jam. It's got two weeks to go, and if it hits it's 17k stretch goal, it will secure a reprint of Werewolf as well as the Dead Deception book.

All right, that's a wrap for today! 'til next time, team.

The time has come, friends! Your orders are shipping as we speak. Some of you may have even already received 'em. It's very exciting!

Artist Edition Bookplate Tips

If you bought an Artist Edition copy,  you'll find your custom-drawn bookplate is included unattached, rather  than pre-inserted into your book. That way, you can decide where exactly you would like to stick it! I usually put them on the inside cover, but you might prefer to put it elsewhere, or not put it in the book at all.  (Maybe you'd like to hang it up! I'm not your boss.)

That said, if you would like to put it in one of your books, it's dead easy. There's lots of ways to do it, but here's my reliable old diagram showing my fav method:

I'm sure this will be obvious to some of you! (Or, you might just remember this diagram from my previous Kickstarter.) But I always mention it, just in case, because I think it's the easiest way to do it!

Thanks again for all your support. Enjoy your books! (And if you have any questions or concerns, just drop me a line at

Vote Dog Ebooks Available Now!

Posted by Make That Thing (Creator)

Happy New Year, everyone!

I'm happy to report that the Vote Dog E-books are being sent out right now! Just check the email associated with your Kickstarter account... an email should be arriving from Backerkit within the next 24 hours with links to download your book! If you have any troubles, just send me a message and let me know.

The E-book(s)

When you get your e-book download info via email, you'll notice that there are actually two versions of the Vote Dog e-book... one that contains "Double Page Spreads", and one that doesn't. Here's why!

The physical Vote Dog book uses double-page spreads for all the chapter titles and illustrations. They look like this:

I think they look really sharp! But for the e-book version, I imagined some of you might be reading on a device where you can only view one page at a time... which would chop these double page spreads in half.

So, I created an alternate version of the e-book that is double-page-spread-free! It breaks off the title page illustrations onto their own separate pages, like so:

This way, you can view the full illustration on a single page, without it being split up.

I think this alternate version might make for a better reading experience on any e-reading devices that can only display one page at a time. But I included a PDF of the original version, too, for folks who would prefer it, or who are viewing on a device that can display double-page spreads nicely.

Use whichever version you prefer! The Power is Yours!

(If you're reading the book on your widescreen computer monitor using Adobe Reader,  I suggest using the double-page version! Select "two page view" and "show cover page in two page view" under View > Page Display to make the spreads display correctly.)

The Physical Versions

We're expecting the physical books to arrive at our warehouse very soon... I'll let you know as soon as they do! All our other rewards are manufactured and ready to ship out alongside the books as soon as they arrive.

Thanks for all your support, team! I can't wait to get these books in your hands.
