About this project
That's me, by the way!
Let's dispense with the whole awkward third-person thing since I'm the one writing this. Hello! Nice to meet you.
Let me give you a little bit of backstory before we get to the meat of this project: Although I've been making a living doing Questionable Content for almost a decade now, music is my other great passion in life. It's what I studied in college and eventually got a degree for! I've been recording songs under the moniker Deathmøle for around 8 years now. I play all of the instruments and write all the parts, and record everything on my computer at home. It's a lot of fun, and I'm really proud of the music I've written!
OKAY ENOUGH BACKSTORY
As much as I enjoy recording music at home, I've never made an album in a proper recording studio. It's always been a dream of mine, but I've never had the money or time to do it. I think this new batch of songs I've got are some of the best I've ever written, and I would love, love, love to go to an actual studio and get an actual professional to actually record them.
TELL ME MORE ABOUT THIS ALBUM THING
Okay! Permanence is, like I said above, instrumental heavy metal. It sounds closer to bands like Meshuggah and Isis than, say, Dragonforce. The songs are all fairly long and have lots of different parts and go from super super heavy to quiet and melodic, often multiple times within the same song. They are ridiculously fun to play. If you'd like to check out some of my older material, you can visit http://deathmole.bandcamp.com and listen for free. I particularly recommend the album "Advances."
CAN I HAVE A TRACK LIST?
Absolutely! These are just working titles for now, but here you go:
2) Nothing Is Permanent
4) Snow In Sun
6) Everything Is Permanent
These are the songs I've currently either finished or have written but not recorded yet. The album should be 45 to 60 minutes long, depending on how long the unfinished tracks end up being. I'll be recording and mixing the album at Sonelab with the excellent and extremely talented Justin Pizzoferrato. When it's done, we'll send it over to John Golden at Golden Mastering to master the album prior to manufacturing. Finally, I have commissioned the incredible, inimitable John Keogh to design the album art, band logo, and t-shirt designs.

WHY ARE YOU DOING A KICKSTARTER FOR THIS:
Hooray, we have an add-on menu now!
Deathmøle t-shirt: $20 ($30 outside the U.S.)
CD of Permanence: $15 ($20 outside the U.S.)
Vinyl copy of Permanence: $25 ($30 outside the U.S.)
Second patch/sticker/tattoo/guitar pick pack: $10 ($15 outside the U.S.)
To add any of the above items to your pledge, simply pledge that additional amount above the reward tier you're receiving. For example, if you're pledged at the $60 level and would like a copy of the CD as well, pledge $75 ($60 + $15). When the campaign is over, we'll collect your add-on orders via an emailed survey.
Making an album costs a lot of money! Recording, mixing, and mastering will take up the bulk of the funds raised by this Kickstarter. Beyond that, the rest of the money goes toward manufacturing the CDs, paying for the album art, and hosting the digital downloads, with a small buffer for unforeseen costs. And if we overfund, all of that money will go towards making our stretch goals as amazing as possible! Basically, the more money we can raise, the more stuff we can add to the album.
SPEAKING OF MORE STUFF:
We've unlocked guitar picks, patches, temporary tattoos, and buttons, which will now be included in every reward for people who pledged $20 or more. The 20-page Deathmøle comic will be provided as a PDF to all backers of $10 or more. A digital download of "Advances" will also be made available to all backers of $10 or more.
SWEET. LET'S DO THIS THING.
Awesome! This is the most exciting musical project I have ever been involved with and I am so, so thankful to you for helping make it a reality. YOU'RE GREAT.
Risks and challenges
There are always risks inherent in producing an album- equipment failure, studio problems, blisters on the guitarist's fingers, etc- but I am working with an extremely reliable engineer and have reserved a generous amount of time to get the songs recorded, mixed, and mastered. Since I'm the one playing all of the instruments, as long as I don't break my fingers or arms it should be totally doable.
Fulfilling the orders will be a challenge, but I'm making this album with the help of Make That Thing. It's a subsidiary of TopatoCo – my partner in producing and shipping Questionable Content books and other merchandise for many years. They are super good at what they do! And I am 100% confident that they can get everything shipped on time to the correct destination with the minimum amount of wailing and gnashing of teeth.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
