About

Goals of establishing a wagon train to operate in the offroad forested areas of beautiful southeastern Ohio year round.

1. To rescue horses that have been abused, neglected or abandoned & return them to healthy, happy lives in cooperation with existing horse rescue facilities throughout Ohio.

2. Secure a home base & covered wagons for families & kids to ride in on day, overnight & weekend long trips without technology of any kind interfering. NO electronic devices beyond cameras, no electronic musak beyond acoustic instruments brought by the guests. Everything will be a theatrical experience harkening back to the pioneer days of the settling of the Ohio territory under the Northwest territory ordinance of 1787.

3. Arrange trips for school kids, families & physically/emotionally challenged kids who can't afford it at a discount or for free. Hold essay or video contests with grade schools especially those in needy areas who otherwise cannot afford field trips. No middle school or high schools because teens are too rowdy a bunch for a quiet, leisurely horse-drawn trip free from electronic pollution.

4. Operate year-round, rain or shine but offer rain checks for those less hardy souls. Cooperate with the nearby colleges like Athens University or Hocking College for internships in animal husbandry, veterinary medicine, horsemanship and other studies.

5. Hold acoustic musical venues during and after the trips along the route especially around the campfires. Storytelling and readings will be encouraged as well as small stage plays by the kids and adults.

Risks and challenges

I am Howard Luken, owner of Luken
Limousine in Columbus, Ohio. I've been in
the industry for two decades & recently
returned to Ohio after 14 years in Los Angeles.
I managed horse camps in Big Bear California,
hauled mustangs & chuckwagons by tractor
trailer for a youth program that ran wagon trains
all over the country & delivered horses across the
entire nation from Oregon to New York for a
ranch in Arizona & a horse farm in St. Louis.
I have wanted to "return to my roots" as
wagon master from the Hocking Hills down to
the Wayne National Forest areas and can
accomplish this dream with your help.
All necessary permits, legal requirements and
insurance will be handled through the business
when the time comes.
There is, sadly, a neverending supply of horses
that folks can no longer care for, existing wagon
builders and dealers with suitable vehicles in stock
and several locations I've scouted in the Ohio State
and Federal Wayne National Forest areas available
immediately. When the funding is in place it would be
no more than a month before operations could begin.

I can see from the first week or so we have had around 12,000 plus appearances on the interwebs. If everyone had chipped in a greenback we'd have a team and wagon already. So here's the deal. Look under the cushions of the couch and under the seat of your car. Find that dollar in lost change and kick it into the pot and let's see what's cooking!
