As beekeepers we know how important a good balance in nature is to keep a healthy living environment for our bees (and for humans of course as well). In our work with bees we strive for a good and healthy environment for them to thrive. To take a next step in "going green" we want our work clothing to be produced in an Fair and environmentally friendly way.
By creating fair-trade produced work clothing, we aim to minimise disturbance to the environment and live harmonious with what nature offers us. Locally but also worldwide. In many cases clothing is still produced in a non-environmentally friendly way, not to mention forced and (child) labour are still common practices. We have started the BeeFair clothing line to make a positive change.
If you are interested in more information about current practices in the clothing industry please watch this trailer and in 2 minutes hopefully you'll understand why we started this project.

Our team and this kickstarter project is build on the idea to make a better world. Beside that we like to see if there is demand for a fairtrade made bee jacket! Naturally we aim for a fair price along the chain of stakeholders!
To support the start-up project BeeFair (and maybe even later the brand) join our Kickstarter project by buying a jacket! Of course you can do more: we would be very happy if you would help us by promoting BeeFair to your local bee friends and connections, for example by writing about it on your bee association website, Facebookpage, Twitter etc. and of course spread the word! You can also contact us, if you like us to write something for your website.
Risks and challenges
We love challenges and of course there are risks as mentioned below. Those risks are mostly time based. This observation made us plan quite some extra buffer time. With the aim to avoid delays. Furthermore as team we promise to work as hard as possible to get a very nice product!
We are in contact with a few producers for the product. However as we don't know the amounts to be produced yet no fixed agreements are made. This can cause some delay.
Quality of the fairtrade bee jacket
As no jacket has been produced yet we will ask the producers to make a sample beforehand. We will be monitoring the production and quality during the project to make sure quality is guaranteed. This is a challenge but quality is very important to us!
About the fabric
The organic cotton fabric is not in stock and needs to be produced. This is calculated in the time schedule, but as we are dependent from external producers it might be a challenge to get it exactly on the expected time.
Delay in delivery
Due to changes in the production process or unexpected events the delivery could be delayed. Although a delay is annoying we still hope that you will receive the jacket before the bees season is starting in most countries. We aim to have your jacket delivered to you before April 2016.
We expect that most challenges can be solved quite easy due to the broad team qualities. Michiel is already running a successful online beekeeping store (www.imkershop.nl) and has business and logistic experience. Kay is an expert in IT and furthermore he always has great ideas to solve challenges. Samed has the visual eye to make sure that the design will meet the standards we have set.
