With the conventional Arduino boards, students also face another common problem - difficulty in troubleshooting their circuit. This is because when it doesn't work, we do not know whether the problem is due to wire connection or coding.
With Maker UNO, the problem is solved! Not only do the onboard LEDs work as outputs, they can also act as indicators, clearly showing what's happening on that pin. When the pin is used as input, you can clearly see whether the signal is received by just looking at changes on the LEDs.
Students always get their boards mixed up. With Maker UNO, you can write your name on the board. Problem solved!
Maker UNO uses the common Micro USB cable which is basically everywhere.
Don't throw your box away! There is a small opening on the box for you to plug the USB cable so that you can keep your Maker UNO safely in the original box, no additional casing required.

Maker UNO is fully compatible with Arduino. You can share the same library and code. We put in 12x LEDs, 1x piezo buzzer and 1x programmable button on the Maker UNO. We have removed the DC jack power input socket as most of the boards used in classes are powered using USB. We have also replaced the ATmega16u2 with CH340 to bring down the cost.
Kids like music and lighting because they are fun. School teachers always try their best to embed fun elements into their classes to get their students' attention and to keep them engaged in the lesson. Lower Cost Uninsured Shipping Method
We have received many valuable comments, thanks for the feedback! One notable comment that has been repeated many times is about the high shipping cost, which stops a lot of backers from giving Maker UNO a try. We hear you and we went all out to search for a better option. Thanks to one of the backers & also our long-time friend, Shee Tze Jin for suggesting a lower cost alternative for international shipping. With this new option, we have crafted a few new rewards and bundles as shown below.
This shipping method is provided by our local national postal service. To be honest, this is our first attempt to use this service. While it comes with online tracking capability, we do not know how frequently they update the tracking information, nor how reliable is the tracking system. We also need to share with you that there is no insurance coverage for the parcels shipped with this option. Although we would love to, we can't assume responsibility and don't accept liability for any damage or loss which may arise in the event of non-delivery. However we can be 100% sure that we will ship out the items on time and provide the proof of shipment and the tracking number once your items are packed and dispatched. Once it is shipped, it will take roughly 3-4 weeks to reach you. We would advise you to consider the Fedex service if you do not wish to take this risk.

One of the brilliant features of the official Arduino Uno is the label printed on its pin headers. It saves us a lot of time when we want to connect the I/O pins to external circuit. Besides, it's very useful in preventing wrong connection errors.
We wish that Maker UNO could have this label on its pin headers too, and instead of monochrome texts, we plan to color-print it in a sticker form (who doesn't like colors by the way). With the color assignment for each pin function group, it's even easier to differentiate the pins on Maker UNO board.
So this is our second stretch goal. Each of your Maker UNO board will come with a set of these label stickers for pin headers once we hit the $55k pledge milestone. Just peel them off and stick on the pin headers!

After you have completed learning with the basic onboard functions and want to explore further, extra components will come in handy. With Maker UNO Edu Kit, we have considered and included most of the basic components and accessories to make projects such as light controlled DC fan and speed controlled running lights.

Give The Underprivileged A Chance
Arduino is a low cost solution for students to get involved in hardware programming. However in Malaysia, the cost is still considered high to most students. Schools with community or financial backing are able to support students in getting involved with learning Arduino. Unfortunately not many schools are blessed with these supports. Maker UNO comes in at a much lower cost and is relatively affordable for most students.
Arus Academy is a social enterprise that provides students after-school classes on Maker Education. Many of our students are underprivileged. Our mission is to transform education to be meaningful and relevant in today's digitally connected world. Our students learn how to build solutions to everyday problems by way of automation using micro-controllers. We are limited in the number of students we can reach out to as we are only a learning centre.

Maker UNO project is jointly developed by Cytron Technologies and Arus Academy. Cytron is a hardware company with more than 10 years experience in developing maker education products. Arus is a social enterprise that provides after-school classes on Maker Education. The intention of this project is to reduce the barriers for teachers to conduct Arduino classes in the school. We want to see more students having opportunity to learn electronics and coding.
Founded in 2004, Cytron provides series of reliable off-the-shelf development boards, electronic modules, training kits and accessories to assist students, makers, inventors and engineers in experimenting with their ideas especially in building robots. With our motto, "Robot.Head to Toe", we are proud to have designed and produced over 100 products ranging from Motor Drivers, Robot Controllers and Sensors to various kind of Arduino Shields and Raspberry Pi HATs.
One of our successful product - rero, our solutions for school children to learn robotics and coding. enables 10-year-old kids to build their own robots. We launched it to the market in 2015 and it is now one of the most popular educational robots in Malaysia.
We have grown from a team of 5 working from our rented house to a team of 35, with in-house design team and production floor. With these, we are able to ensure the quality of every single product that is shipped out from our factory is of high quality.
Arus started as an after-school learning centre teaching coding and making to underprivileged kids. We want to make learning relevant to students, to help them see connections between what they learn in school and their projects. Since 2015 we have created programmes centred around Maker Education. Prior to this kickstarter campaign, we have already shipped a batch of beta version to our domestic market between Jan-Feb. From the first batch shipment, we only received less than 10 reports from the customers regarding hardware issues. Mostly complained about the packaging material tear and USB port's soldering issue which we are working hard to resolve. This is the advantage of having in-house design team and production floor where we are able to swiftly react to the market feedbacks.
We will do 100% testing on every board that we ship but we cannot fully guarantee that there will be no manufacturing issue on the product. However, we can assure you that we will take all necessary steps to solve your problem if you report the problem to us.
