Smith/Wymore Disappearing Acts is a bay area based dance/theater company directed by Sheldon B. Smith and Lisa Wymore. We are currently attempting to finish an ambitious new evening-length work called “Apparatus.” While we currently face many funding struggles we are just asking for your help now to cover the fee for our lighting designer. Our goal is to raise a minimum of $1200 before the end of February 2011.
SWDA is best known for its intricate multi-media dance/theater work that combines sophisticated choreography with clever uses of technology. Our work strives towards a richness of experience that is as entertaining as it is experimental. We have won numerous awards and have toured both nationally and internationally. “Apparatus” is being co-produced by the prestigious ODC Theater in San Francisco and will be performed February 25-27, 2011. “Apparatus” is a witty, wild, and interactive new dance/theater piece that uses the language of cinema to reveal the complex layers involved in performing one’s self on the stage, in front of the camera, and in real life. Essentially a dance about acting, the work is about a fictional team of actors, directors and crew struggling to shoot a movie, also called “Apparatus”. Featuring intensely physical movement, live film and audience interaction; the work is a beautifully intricate and fragile puzzle that teeters constantly on the edge of collapse.
We have a strong feeling that the piece is going to be a hit! We had a very successful in-progress-showing of the work this past August and we got some great feedback. However, ticket sales alone are not enough to fund this large-scale project. Help us make it to the finish line by donating to our Kickstarter campaign!
