Living on the lower European mainland has always seems to be tensed, living between the great powers as we look into the past. Also these days watching the news become a sad occasion again, war, hatred Ukrainian crisis, ISIS in the middle east. There where all human values seems to be faded away so quickly again and unfortunately it does't seem to be better going forwards.

Being fascinated by (war) history since childhood was a gift from my dear  father. Miss you dad! A few weeks ago on a Saturday afternoon i was walking with my son trough one of the quiet historic streets of Dordrecht. A nice town close to our home village, my eyes felt on a old beautiful typical Dutch stone facade. Above our heads on that facade was a memorial stone, a small black cube. On the front of that hard stone cube was visible the star of David with on both sides written; You should tell your children!

In my fascination I said to my son Milan, do you see that stone there and he answered enthusiast. Yes look the star of God!
We walked a few steps further as he asked me. Hey dad what should you tell your children?!
At that point I became silent and a huge wave of sadness came over me..

I thought to myself how do i tell my eight year old boy such a terrible story as the Holocaust, about Anna Frank who was just a few years older as he is now.

About Auschwitz, Sobibor and all the innocent human beings deported and slaughtered like they where animals. The only thing i could tell at that point   silence..

His Question kept bothering me for the rest of the weekend and also when I was on my job again on Monday at printing house Esveco products again where we manufacture all kinds of Graphic specials. I was cleaning up the room where we store all kind of models of production orders we manufactured before.

Going trough a box of different Quartet games my mind came clear and I realized that I should create an Quartet game for our children! That would be an educative and playable way to tell them about this very important lesson of the past.To learn them about war over Holland. How it all started, about occupation, and finally our Liberation. This year as we hope to celebrate the 70th anniversary on may 5 2015 of being a free country, unfortunately we can feel the tension rise again but will show our liberators we are still Thankful for their outstanding efforts!!

Risks and challenges

The big challenge is to find enough funding for the Liberation Quartet project. The goal of € 10.000 is far from enough to provide every grade five and sixth kid in Holland a game to achieve this goal there is much more needed. But it would be a great start and it will be enough to the production of the first 7500 quartets.

The risks on my project is very low because i'm so close involved with the production of my project. The company I work for is specialized in this business. We can handle production orders of playing card related games from 100 up to a million stock of card games.
The biggest issue will be finding enough funding, the short time span and in case of success of the project the distribution of the Liberation Quartets into the Dutch schools. But therefore i will find a Dutch foundation to cooperate.
