Stretch goals announced!

We announce our stretch goals! We won’t decide what to use additional funding for without consulting with you. We will post a separate backers only update with the link. You can select 3 out of 7 options. Depending on your vote we will decide what improvements and in what order we will bring into the game.

Two words about Linux and MacOS version. In the very beginning we set a target for $100000 to release all three versions together. And we envisioned from the start that before this goal we wanted to add improvements to our game to make our game better and then port it and that’s why it’s not at the top of the list of the features for additional funding on the project page.

Also, please note that since $100000 is a “fixed” stretch goal we are a bit limited here in what improvements we can do before this goal, we can add only two. For example, we won’t be able to add before this amount one $20000 and one $15000 improvements.

Here is the list and the cost of each improvement.

Improved storyline. We are a small team and our writer of scenarios is 2D designer at the same time. With additional funding we will be able to outsource the remaining 2D design and our writer will have much more time to work on the story, especially on making it non-linear. Also, we would be able to pay more for translation. Cost: $10000.

Pack of story characters and unique bosses. Medieval times are not just war. For many quests it would be great to have unique characters, for example: a clerk, a lazar, harlequin, a child, an ambassador from overseas etc. They all make game’s world richer. And also, if knights from different orders look at least a bit different, it looks much better. Also, many players like unique bosses. Giant spiders or demons come from fantasy, but what about Goethe? We can introduce to Eisenwald the Erlking. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Der_Erlkönig). Cost: $15000.

Castles assault and defense. What medieval times are these when there is no real castle assault? It will be done in two stages. First the attacking side with a ram will break the gates and the defenders will shoot at them from the walls. And when the gates fall, remaining attackers will face the defenders in the inner yard. Cost: $15000

Castles upgrade. You will be able to make additional buildings in your castles – a stable, a chapel, a smithery etc., where each building will bring you a certain profit. Also, you will be able to improve defense buildings that would make it harder for the enemy to assault your castle. And also, like everything that can be built, it can be destroyed – you can burn a castle Cost: $20000.

Boarding battles. They will make travel on water significantly less secure and much more fun. Cost: $10000.

Seasons change. How about out bright early autumn, damp and muddy late autumn and snowy winter? Cost: $20000.

Collector’s Edition Box for $175. Including a poster, printed artbook, booklet, map, two discs – one with both games, another with the soundtrack. Making a box version in small numbers is rather expensive plus there is shipping. If we simply introduce this reward, we might not be able to make it. But if we just give it a fixed amount from the budget we won’t have to worry about it and we would be able to introduce it. Cost: $10000.

Improved story line stands out - especially the non-linear bit. I think what also makes a world seem more alive is small details that vary from area to area, that reflect the kind of lives the NPCs are living in the world; and also ones that might vary according to time of day or season - such as hanging out the washing, planting, harvesting.

Regarding the "Giant spiders or demons come from fantasy" could we replace it with something special like Headless knight etc, too many demon and spiders in games nowadays ...my humble request to keep it low fantasy and unique... probably a crazy man-eating beast enough to create a eerie atmosphere, let's don't move towards same, common taste in market?

I think translation is already pretty much going to be outsourced to backers. Other things we could consider, we need to discuss first how to do them and how to implement them. A lot of story is already there but it can always get bigger :) We will think about this.

Imho i also don't see a point in a collector's edition for 175 bucks. I envision the game as mix of Lords of the realm 2 with hexagonal turn-based fights, so seasons, castle upgrades and castle assaults should be a part of the game. But if there isn't an increase in funders, there will probably no such things in this game (i don't want to be pessimistic).
Maybe you should consider a community-improved storyline (written by funders, voted by funders)?
This would make the 2000$ scenario pledge a little bit obsolete, but since there are no backers at the moment...
And since you are crowdfunding the game, why not think about out sourcing the translation to the funders. I don't know if there are plans for translated audio, but text translation should be manageable, depending on the language files. You can always recheck the provided translations by a professional.

Hehe, time to write another email to my friends asking them to consider contributing...

This isn't fair! You tease us with all this upgrades and we can't have them all? I love all of them, exept the colector's edition.

    7. Nicholas Russell on May 13, 2012

All the upgrades seem pretty cool but I'm not entirely certain why the special edition is here. I mean sure you can do it but only people who can afford the 175 bones it costs will actually be able to enjoy it. Still best of luck none the less with the survey.

Nice! A great way to introduce stretch goals. I'll fill the poll as soon as you send it, but I'd already say 1)Castle Upgrades 2)Improved Storyline and 3)Pack of story characters and unique bosses

Well, and made a typo :) I obviously meant poll.
