I've been thinking about this for a while and finally put the studio dates on hold a few days ago because I have an awesome group of songs I want to record that I think you're going to love!
Back in January this year, I recorded this Sundance In Your Eyes single at Brotheryn Studios in Ojai, CA. The folks there did an amazing job on the song and I can't think of place I would rather record and make this new full length record come to life.
I've been writing a ton for this new album and my writing has really taken leaps forward... my personal favorites for the new record are The Answer, Some People and I Feel Like A Photograph.
There are some old favorites in the running for the record too! Won't Matter Anymore, I Would Do it Without You, Love Let Me Go, The Summer Song and Will You Sell Your Soul to the Devil? never found a home on the last EP but fit into the mix of songs this time perfectly.
I have 14 songs in total and I think we can get to all of them in the three days I have reserved in the studio. We'll be recording live which means the musicians will be tracking the song at the same time in different, isolated rooms in the studio so the instruments don't bleed together and it can be mixed later on. We'll be able to hear each other and play together to really breath life into the song.
So many of you say how much you love my live performances. I think recording live with the band will capture that raw emotion and the passion behind each song so the result is a record full of life and energy.
After that initial recording session I'll be touring for most of Sept and Oct but I'll be getting mixes from my engineer of the songs - which I'll be sharing some of with you - as we go through the process of mixing down the record.
In Nov I'll be working more closely with the graphic designer to create some beautiful artwork along with tshirts and other merch. Dec will see the project going to production and beginning prep with a publicist for an early 2015 release!
I would absolutely love to share this whole process with you guys and have you on board with me every step of the way. More so then ever, this music is for you.
We reached the 1st goal only TWO WEEKS into the project and now I'm pushing to raise $17,000 to manufacture and master VINYL!!! And have a budget for a music video. Woot woot!
Please keep sharing and supporting the project in any way you can. :) I am so grateful we're funded and really excited to see more of my dreams for these songs coming true. I can't thank you enough!
Risks and challenges
It's always a risk making a record but I've made two with some good success and I really enjoyed the process and connection with you guys when we worked together to support the Streetlamp Musician project and raise money for a radio campaign for that EP.
One of the risks on this new record is getting through all 14 songs. There is the possibility that we wont get to all the songs in the studio but part of recording that many is that there's always some that don't do what you want them to when you record them and its good to be able to cut them down the line in the process.
I plan on sending even those songs that are cut from the record, the B-sides, to the folks who contribute $25 or more to the campaign!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
