A totally new ergonomic computer workstation design that goes beyond traditional ergonomics, giving computer users optimal comfort in a semi-recline posture. Computer users will also enjoy head support and the freedom of movement with mild exercises opportunities in-between downloads and mouse clicks.
This ergonomic computer workstation design is totally new, fully functional with a built-in computer caddie. The keyboard is easily accessed with the monitor positioned at eye level. The head rest is constantly used while working on the computer in a semi-recline posture for better neck support.
The Mayo Clinic did a study in 2011 on the treadmill desk and found that it actually reduced worker productivity by 16% due to the many missed key strokes while walking. Ball chairs have shown to be dangerous due to a lack of stability while sitting.
Inspired by NASA for the neutral body posture it supports, this new product is the result of a frustrated sedentary worker who's seen his health fail due to, what he believes, is the modern day chains of the current office work space design.
This new product is designed to bring computer users a more enjoyable computer using experience and can be easily retrofitted with a traditional ergonomic chair.
Simply put... You're just going to enjoy your computer using experience better than using the traditional desk and chair that belongs in a museum already!
This goal of this project is to take the invention from its current stage of demonstration to mass production and marketing through a viable business.
Presently, the prototype is handmade with the aid of a local welder. This way of production is too expensive to sustain a business.
The Validation Study and Mechanical Rendering will be commissioned to Inertia Engineering and Design Ltd., a Toronto based engineering firm known for their progressive approach to innovative designs. A Validation Study will be done on the prototype to ensure that it complies with appropriate standards and specifications and fulfills its intended function. The Mechanical Rendering will be done with state-of-the-art computer-aided design that will show fully detailed designs and three-dimensional modeling necessary to start the tooling process.
Case Studies will be performed by Dr. Marc Hamilton. Dr. Hamilton’s laboratory, Pennington Bio-medical Research Center at Louisiana State University, introduced the inactivity physiology paradigm which led to the now rapidly emerging perspective that prolonged sedentary time (predominantly sitting) is a significant risk for multiple metabolic disorders related to chronic disease. Contracting research studies with Dr. Hamilton will be necessary to validate any health benefits associated with the use of this new active sitting product and will make it more attractive for a potential manufacturer.
Existing Tooling is available for purchase from a former ergo chair company that has placed its ergo chair out of the market. This tooling is specifically for the backrest and headrest of this new product. The tooling for the base and computer caddie attachments will have to be created from scratch.
This project would accomplish its goal by securing the much needed funds in order to create the tooling required for manufacturing. Tooling is needed so that the Ergo Gym Computer Workstation can be mass produced.

Risks and challenges
Once the production requirements are met, the challenge of creating the brand that supports the mission, vision and values of a new work space wellness concept is essential to the ultimate success of this new product. Fortunately, I have a masters degree in Organizational Development that will prove to be a valuable asset in this regards.
Selling this new idea to key players in the ergo and fitness community that can support the validity of this new product will be a challenge I can address with my more than 20 years of experience in insurance sales.
