About this project
Slaps And Beans is a co-operative or single player scrolling beat’ em up game with the addition of platform elements and mini-games in which we interpret the characters of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill who they made famous in their movies of the 70’s and 80’s. The key ingredients of Slaps and Beans are:
- Arcade pixel art graphics
- Bud & Terence style fighting system
- Co-op multiplayer
- A red with yellow tarp Dune Buggy
- A lot of slaps and a lot of beans (obviously)
Original Soundtracks Goal Reached!!
thanks to all of you to make this dream come true! now straight on to next goal: xbox one and ps4 version!
Any resources will be fundamental
We have already written an original story that pays homage to all the most famous films of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill, characterizing them with the style of the 80's Arcade. The idea is to build something by the Fans and for the Fans so we can all continue to have fun with the adventures of Bud and Terence for quite a while and make them somehow eternal.
“But why do you have to splat the whole car?”
As the title suggests, there will be a lot of slaps. The game will be a cooperative side-scrolling beat’em up (...or single player, if you have no friends. But we recommend you to find at least one, who finds a friend finds a treasure) which is inspired by the great classics of the genre. Imagine a classic like Double Dragon and Golden Axe and add in:
- “Hey listen! 50% in a partnership means we both make the decisions!” “You’re interested in than?” “Who me? No!”: In Slaps And Beans we must not only defeat enemies. At times it will be necessary to use the specific skills of the protagonists (like the agility of Terence and the strength of Bud) to overcome obstacles and proceed in the history.
- “Hey you can't miss this one, Chief! Live from your reporter: I go down, he starts swinging. I'll duck. He doesn't see the tree and hits it head on.”: Slaps And Beans is a scrolling beat’em up but, compared to the classic fighting games, it will have an advanced fighting system targeted to get fight choreography as faithful as possible to the fistfights of Bud and Terence.
- “How about a beer and hot dog contest?”: Often our heroes will face some minigames to unlock progress in the game. An ever-present challenge will be the beer and hot dog contest!
- “Oh by the way, do not forget, not just any Dune Buggy, it gotta be red with the yellow tarp”: Yes, you can also ride the Dune Buggy! Expect great things from her in the game!
.... And the surprises do not end there!
“They got our man in Havana sir!” “Too bad.. He was a good agent”
The story will take place on different locations. The game levels will be distributed in a Miami 80s, a tropical island and a western scenario.
The soundtrack has always been a strength of the films of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill and there is no doubt that the music of Oliver Onions, Franco Micalizzi or brothers La Bionda have contributed to their success.
We are aware that the use of some of the most popular music of the films would add tremendous value to Slaps And Beans, but the use of this music implies to significant licensing costs. For this reason we decided to dedicate one of the stretch goals to cover record licenses. Another fundamental aspect is the sound effects that make unmistakable the fight scenes and only a true fan can appreciate that. Here are some examples:
We have been working as video games developers for several years and, finally, a year ago we decided to create a small free demo of the game of our dreams: “Schiaffi&Fagioli”. The amount of positive feedback gathered for a project so small and developed quickly and without a budget, has given us confirmation of what we already knew in our hearts: the world NEEDS a true video game of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill. And we need you to make it happen! Currently the team consists of:
- Marco Agricola - Programmer
- Manuel Labbate - Graphic
- Alessandro Pedersoli - Overview
- Gerardo Verna - Programmer / Graphic
- Fabrizio Zagaglia - Programmer / Graphic
- Marcus Zölch - Consulting / Communication
- Maurizio Palumbo - Web
Also collaborating in the project:
- Max Di Fraia e Davide Luzi - Music
- Leonard Menchiari - Graphic
- Michele Postpischl - Sound effects
- Fabio "Mad" Taurisano - Web
“What do you think?” “I think… What a hell! This will never get off the ground! Never!” “Good, It’s a deal!”
The idea of developing a game of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill borned several years ago but the opportunity came with the Spaghetti Western Jam, a contest organized by Indievault.it portal, which proposed to the participants to create a small “Spaghetti Western” game in a maximum time of one month. The result was the prototype "Schiaffi&Fagioli" (that is Slaps & Beans in italian), a simple "scrolling beat em up" game inspired by their main western movies.
“Anything else?” “A connected rod, a magneto, 50 yards of canvas and six vertical sparks. Otherwise it’s all in perfect condition”
Thanks to this small demo and the enthusiasm of the fans we were able to contact the two actors and to obtain authorization to continue this amazing project. The game that we want to build must have top quality in every aspect: gameplay, music, sound, graphics, story. We want every detail is to the highest level. All this, added to the cost of the license to carry out the official game of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill, has made it essential the search for a production budget. We would love the game to be something created BY enthusiasts and FOR enthusiasts, Kickstarter seemed like the best solution. And there's more! This has been also the last project wanted and authorized by Bud in person and we think it’s necessary, at this point, to try to give life to this huge dream.
Slaps And Beans is currently planned for PC, Mac and Linux. We'd love to include Xbox One and PlayStation 4 by adding them to stretch goals later in the campaign. Even a mobile version for Android and iOs would be fantastic to have our heroes always with us!

Terence: “Do we have enough gas to get back to the isle?”
Bud : “No”
Bud : “Not enough to get to the isle but enough to get half way there!”
Terence: “ What do you mean?”
Bud: “Have you ever seen a seagull? They fly high in the sky. Then they stop their wings and start gliding down. Sometimes they succeed to go back high where they started from. And they are guided by the wind, the stream, their instinct.”
Terence: “The wind, the stream, their instinct? And if that is not enough they can still move their wings. In our case what do we do?”
Bud: Oh, we call our guardian angel… Or not?
We flew as far as we could, realizing the demo Slaps And Beans, for passion and with a limited budget. We hope that our journey is not going to end here, because we would like to give birth to a real complete game that can remain in the hearts of all fans of Bud and Terence, like us. We have the skills, the experience, the team, the passion and the permissions that serve to make it happen. With your help we can work with the authorization of the two actors, the original soundtracks, and create the game as well as we imagine it, without compromise. Now, the rest of the trip will depend on you, let’s make the dream of so many Fans comes true!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Slaps And Beans will be translated in english, italian, german, spanish, french and hungarian.
Dubbing is not expected at the moment.
Our reference platform will be STEAMand we are also considering a GOGstore.
We have scheduled specific stretch goals for the publication of the game on Playstation4 and Xbox one.
We don’t exclude the porting of a Nintendo platforms (wii/wii u/switch) if it becomes specifically requested.
The game will be tentatively released on or about december 2017.
The current storyline is set on three main locations, each of them with specific game levels but we have studied extra goals to make the game bigger and long-lived.
The pc version release will be available only in the local co-op version. The multiplayer online version has much higher costs and
longer development time but we don’t exclude this option as a post-launch updated version.
