We all love going out to eat. We are very fortunate we can enjoy getting a drink with friends, savoring a delicious dinner with family, and brunching it up on the weekend. In the United States we now eat out more than we do at home!
But, money! Most of us are on some type of budget, so we try to spend within our limits. If you are like us, you are constantly balancing fun and budget. That is why 97% of us look for deals before we spend, and 76% of us are willing to try a new restaurant if they have a great deal.
So, after some analysis we arrived at our hypothesis:
Eat Cheap is the only place you can find the best food & drink deals, any day, any meal.
Eat Cheap collects and lists the best food and drink deals according to locals - the true experts. The website uses a crowdsourcing model to find the best deals and to keep them up-to-date. Eat Cheap launched in mid 2018 in 3 locations: Detroit, Denver, and Tampa Bay. Eat Cheap quickly got over a hundred thousand views ($0 marketing), was recognized by numerous news sources, and got hundreds of requests to launch new cities.
And now we want everyone to have access to Eat Cheap, no matter where they live. We want to create the biggest library of food deals in the world!
(People always ask why didn't we get the the .com, well, because we're team cheap)
Functionality for next phase:
Allow Users to Add & Update Deals
The functionality we are most excited about is creating a portal where anyone can add and update deals. This is absolutely crucial for us to grow quickly. This will allow Eat Cheap to get thousands of deals using the Eat Cheap network. We want the users, restaurants, and bar managers to add their favorite deals and to keep the deals up-to-date. We have gathered a strong following nationally, where local ambassadors want to onboard new cities, and need to give them the tool to do so.
Location Functionality - Show Users the Best Deals, Closest to Them
The ability to land on Eat Cheap and automatically see the best deals closest to you. This is an important feature for an improved user experience, to give our users what they are looking for instantly (reducing clicks). This has been highly requested from our current users, and we're thrilled to bring it to them.
Deal Scoring - Allow Users to Vote Deals Up & Down
The purpose of Eat Cheap is to show the best deals according to locals. What better way to show the best deals than to allow people to add them, and then vote on the best ones. We believe in the power of local knowledge, and we want to implement that into Eat Cheap. So when you are seeing a top deal, it's because the people decided it is best.
Launching new cities:
Our goal is to onboard 10 new cities every 3 months.
Onboarding to us means having at least 500 deals in a single city. Enough deals that you can come back every day and always have a delicious meal or drink to try.
Our project timeline is outlined below. We are planning on ending our Kickstarter project in early February and moving right into development. Our development will take 2.5 months, we built-in 3 months to account for any variance. Our official relaunch date will be between April & May. During the development phase we will begin onboarding 10 new cities, and will continue to do so after we launch. We will take feedback from our backers on which cities we should begin with, we want to make sure our backers get access to their cities first. The onboarding of the cities will continue all year to approximately net 30-40 cities. Since we will be adding the admin tool for our users to add new deals, this might be expedited, but our team is locked in for the onboarding schedule below.
Onboarding the outlined cities above will make Eat Cheap available to over 40 million people!!!
We are a small team of tech & food enthusiasts. All ranging from various places and career paths, our families come from Italy, Colombia and Poland. We came together for one single purpose, to bring everyone the best food & drink deals, for free. We've been spending days, nights and weekends to bring Eat Cheap to the current cities, and we can't wait to bring it to everyone else. Below is a summary of our team:

Risks and challenges
There are always risks when relaunching a new website or new functionality. Because we are a team of experienced technology resources we feel confident in our ability to deliver this product, but understanding the challenges is important for success.
Development - new coding always poses challenges due to human error and changing working code. New requirements have to be developed successfully and bug-free. Critical goals for success will include thorough business requirements, skilled developers, and a rigorous QA process.
Scope Creep - many times during development new features are requested or added that were not part of the original scope. This creates risk for the budget, timing and final delivery. Critical goals for success will include a good change control process and methodical project management.
Staff Turnover - staff changes happen on most teams. This can disturb the implementation process, as subject matter experts move from the project. A critical goal for success will be that project communications and tasks are documented, up-to-date and accessible to new project members.
Our team will utilize all of the best in practice agile project management techniques to ensure this project is delivered on time, on budget and within the outlined scope. We will also share all project updates to keep clear and open communication lines with our backers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
