OUR NEW GOAL IS $4,000!!!.
Today’s veterans face a series of challenges upon returning home from deployment. Reintegrating into a domestic environment, relaxing defense mechanisms, and managing a dependence on medications are just some of the issues that present themselves daily.
Upon a closer examination of the characters' motivations and behaviors in Othello we began to see similar patterns. Tension at home, a soldier's survival instincts confronting non-combat situations, and anxiety began to resonate on a contemporary level.
By setting the action around the veterans of a decade long war with no front line we can shed new light on the subtle and subconscious fears driving the plot of the play and currently affecting America’s soldiers.
We come from a strong background in devised ensemble theatre which is paired with extensive study in advanced classical theatre. We plan to use our contemporary aesthetic to create multiple layers of storytelling through physicality and multimedia elements.
WHERE THE MONEY GOES
We are producing Othello at The Secret Theatre October 25-30, 2011.
Your contribution will fund rental fees for a month of rehearsal space, the venue, and costumes, as well as provide stipends for the creative team and cast.
$3,000 is our goal and the minimum amount we need to make this project happen. However, additional funding would only serve to enhance the production on all levels, as well as better compensate our talented team.
