THANK YOU FOR HELPING US REACH OUR GOAL!
With just four days left in our Kickstarter campaign, Big Truck is tanked up and pulling Tiny toward the next destination: STRETCH GOAL! If we can hit $13,000 by October 19th, we will be able to PRINT more books, GIVE books to kids in need and... ALL of our backers will receive a special thank you gift, a set of three fun character cards!
We need your help!!
• If you haven't backed already, please support our campaign now, at any level from $1 up!
• If you are already a backer, please consider increasing your pledge (extra books would make GREAT GIFTS!)
• Please share the link to our project: E-mail, tweet, post on blog pages and in your Facebook groups!
Together, we can take this big adventure to the next level!
We chose Kickstarter because we believe in the power of community coming together to support each other’s creativity and dreams. The satisfaction of seeing your ideas become reality and knowing that there are people out there who believe in you and are cheering you on is so energizing. With your support, we will be able to publish this book the way we envision it.
We can’t thank you enough for joining us on this adventure!
The Big Adventures of Tiny House is a story about an old farmhouse that gets recycled into something new: TINY, a little house with a big heart – and WHEELS! With the help of Big Truck and lots of friends they meet along the way, Tiny travels the country to discover the true meaning of home.
Our main character Tiny is a lot like the people of the Tiny House movement who inspired our story.
Tiny is resilient: When his circumstances change, Tiny learns to (literally!) roll with it, and look for the bright side of life.
Tiny is adventurous: He may be small, but Tiny lives BIG, traveling thousands of miles across America, seeing the sights and attending the Tiny House Jamboree (yes, that's a real thing - and it's AWESOME!). Along the way, he makes lots of new friends -- like Shiny (an Airstream), Waverly (the houseboat) and Buster (a converted school bus).
Tiny is creative and determined: "With some nails and a saw, and a hammer with a claw," Tiny builds a new life for himself, a new way of living based on sharing and giving. In the end, he realizes something very important:
"He could be a home anywhere, because home wasn’t a place.
Home was a feeling, a smile on your face.
It was friendship and singing and a full happy heart.
It was sharing good meals, and where you hung up your art.
Whether you anchored in place, or decided to roam,
What called to your heart could still be called home."
Meet some of our main characters! How could you not love them? They'll be joined by many others that Tiny and Big Truck meet along the way, so stay tuned!
We gave a sneak preview reading of the book at this summer's Tiny House Jamboree in Colorado Springs. Here's what one person had to say:
"The Big Adventures of Tiny House is a story of adventure and community, and most importantly a fresh take on the meaning of home. Susan beautifully captures the spirit of the tiny house movement— a pioneering lifestyle centered around meaningful experiences and friendships. This is sure to become a classic, beloved by tiny house enthusiasts of all ages!" Alexis DeHart Stephens, Tiny House Expedition
We've been friends ever since we met at a Mommy and Me class with our babies 11 years ago. Helping each other through some tough times was the catalyst for our first book, Sun Kisses, Moon Hugs, a lyrical picture book to reassure kids that love connects us forever, even if we are separated from or lose our loved ones. We published it in 2012 - thanks to amazing Kickstarter backers like yourself.
That achievement led to a wonderful collaboration with LeVar Burton on a book to help kids cope with traumatic events, The Rhino Who Swallowed a Storm. Rhino has been on an incredible journey since being published by Reading Rainbow in 2014 – it won the Golden Ippy, was read aloud by First Lady Michelle Obama to military kids, and is currently orbiting the planet aboard the International Space Station as part of the innovative Storytime from Space program. Yes, we have A BOOK IN SPACE!
Our books are being used by therapists, parents, schools and non-profit programs like A Window Between Worlds to help kids heal from loss and trauma - and that makes us feel good every day. We love what we do, and we want to keep doing it! We are so grateful that we've had the opportunity to create not one, but two books to help kids facing challenges - and we hope The Big Adventures of Tiny House will bring joy and inspiration to even more families. One of our favorite things is visiting schools and libraries and reading our stories to kids (our next big dream is taking a Tiny House Book Tour next summer...in a life-size Tiny!). You can learn more about us and our first two books (and find terrific art and nature activities to accompany them!) at www.SunKissesMoonHugs.com
Our budget of $11,000 will allow Courtenay the time she needs to complete the illustrations and book design, and cover the cost of printing 2,000 hardcover, 32-page picture books. (If we make a little more than our minimum, Courtenay has a grand plan to splurge and add dust jackets, too! Ooh-la-la, they will be magnificent!).
Please support us at any level you can - and please SHARE THIS PROJECT with your friends and neighbors and on social media!! We've offered a range of reward levels - but if there's something you would really like to see (poster size art? A Skype session with us?) send us a message and we'll do our best to add that.
When you back this project, you are helping indie artists make their creative dreams come true -- and you will be getting a great book before it is available to the public!
Our Tiny book has a BIG purpose. A portion of our book sales will be donated to Makes a Village, a new organization that builds tiny houses and affordable co-housing to help people facing homelessness. You can learn more about them at www.makesavillage.org.
A few more words from Tiny:
As for him he was looking for a new way of living,
A community focused on sharing and giving!
He found a good spot under an old apple tree
and settled down with his friends in sweet harmony!
Thank you for taking the time to read, share and support our project. We are blessed to have this Kickstarter community, helping each other grow our dreams!

Risks and challenges
On our Sun Kisses, Moon Hugs campaign in 2012, we finished our book and fulfilled our backer rewards ahead of schedule - and we expect to do the same this time around.
We love the DIY nature of indie publishing. We've gained a lot of knowledge and skills as we've built our career as an author-illustrator team (that's one reason why the Tiny House movement resonates so strongly with us!). Courtenay is an experienced illustrator and graphic designer, and we already have a great printer lined up right here in the USA that we trust to do a quality, on-time job. We allowed ourselves a realistic schedule, so we anticipate success and will work hard to achieve it. If we are delayed for any reason, we will communicate honestly and in a timely way to let you know our plan for overcoming unexpected detours or roadblocks. We will find a way to get The Big Adventures of Tiny House to you!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
