The world's first topless hot dog bun called Innies . No cutting needed. INNIES MAKES FOOD FUN

The Innies Hot Dog Bun in Action
The Innies Hot Dog Bun in Action

The main idea of this Innies Hot Dog Bun project was to manufacture a bread bun, that is unlike any other - with a groove or slot in the middle. To achieve this shape was not as  easy as it may sound . It took 2 years of various prototypes , to achieve a shape that would work . It also required a unique balance of ingredients, so that heat in the baking process, was just enough to form the U shape .  ( See our project video above)

The result,  is the most unique Hot Dog bun in the world .

It  allows you to insert your  hotdog in the middle of your bun. No Cutting needed ! When you have friends and family around you can "reload" your hotdog buns quicker than ever before . Just imagine how well this would work at your next fundraiser, football or baseball game, when thousands of hotdogs have to be served quickly.

All you have to do then was  pack your Innies roll full of mustard and ketchup as well as your favourite toppings such as chopped  onions, lettuce, relish or pickles.  The secret benefit was that none of your toppings would  spill out on your shirt or skirt.

How does Innies compare to the regular supermarket buns? Generally most supermarket hotdog buns are too large - there is just too much spongy, tasteless, dough that drowns your hotdog in the middle. The Innies bun gives your snack the correct balance, of bread to hotdog. You can go back for more, without being filled up with bread. This is healthy for you too.

It doesn't matter where you cut the regular supermarket bun - at the top or on the side - it still allows all the juicy bits to fall out .  The Innies bun can be used for inserting cold meat ,tuna ,lobster tails or even prawns

Why is our product called Innies ? My son Jonathan came up with this name - because  the bun reminded him of the  various types of Belly Buttons,  visible on the beach ! Some point outwards called " Outies"  and some inwards called  " Innies" - so the name seems to have stuck .

Customers just love the idea and we have been approached by sausage manufacturers to have a custom fitted hotdog sized for the bun .

We have now achieved a workable shape and tested samples in the field during a kids  soccer fundraiser , where the first 400  Innies were sold  - but  we need your help to take the project to the next stage .

The  targeted goal of the next stage requires  the preparation and construction of new tooling .

This is important for our Kick Starter supporters to know, as we have a specific goal for the funds . This new tooling will cost $5000 to develop and is the reason why we have featured the Innies - Topless Hot Dog Roll on Kick starter. Why do we need new tooling?

The initial prototype,  that was manufactured to test the Innies Bread Roll concept was  hand made with low grade steel that was teflon coated . On the advice of our engineers , this  initial use of steel ,was the most cost effective way to construct  the initial moulds and baking trays.

The funds on raised on Kickstarter will be used to purchase the new  aluminium tooling so that the new lightweight aluminium baking trays can be manufactured from this new tooling . Aluminium baking trays are required, because the existing steel baking trays are heavy  for our staff to lift onto the baking racks .Making them 50%  lighter ,would reduce production times ,  reduce production costs  and reduce energy usage and also reduce wear and tear on the baking machinery .

  • We hope that you can find a way to support the new  Innies Hot Dog Bun tooling , on Kick Starter

Satisfying Orders

There are always unique challenges in shipping fresh bread internationally . These hurdles involve many government health restrictions, labelling laws and also the " time " factor of reaching your customers while the product is still fresh . At the current time , we needed a bakery to work with us, for little or no cost - to help us fine tune the design and formula . Most bakers are too busy to invest their time in Research and Development of new ideas . We were fortunate to have the use of a friends' bakery in Sydney Australia to develop the product and bake the first few batches from the initial steel prototype . That initial testing process, has taken hundreds of hours and many recipes till we got it right . . Thats why our fresh bun samples will only be available to our supporters in Australia, for the next 12 months . Our challenge, once we have successfully raised the $5000, for the new aluminium tooling , will be to use this tooling, to manufacture new aluminium trays , and send them as soon as possible, to a bakery in the USA , UK and Europe. This will allow us to easily send fresh samples to our many supporters, all over the world and without all the red tape associated with exporting a perishable product like bread .

We apologise for the temporary delay in getting your batch of Innies buns to you . It is possible that exposure on the Kick Starter website will help us to source a friendly baker closest to your location in the USA and UK - so that we can begin supplies as soon as possible to your area . Another risk is that there is no guarantee that a baker in the USA or UK will accept to make the Innies Hot Dog Bun when volumes are still modest. Or that the special hand made feature of the baking process , that gives the Innies Bun its unique shape and flavour, will be be easily adopted in other markets . But, we believe that by testing the market initially in Australia with retailers and caterers we can reduce these obstacles and that other bakers, in new markets, will view the opportunity to produce the Innies Hot Dog Bun as a unique point of difference, in a large but conservative bread, market.

Preparing proto types for tooling is an expensive process, thats why we are giving Kick Starter a try . It will take the project to the next level with a clear goal . We have used our own funds to get this far and we have proved that we can make a viable and tasty product . We view the Kick Starter platform as a very prestigious place to be , as not only is it a source of funding but also a source of encouragement and worldwide publicity for our brand and idea .

A show of support on Kick Starter will never be forgotten and will always be appreciated . The biggest risk is that if we don't receive our funding -it will mean that a major milestone in the growth of the unique Innies Hot Dog will not be met and it will be harder to move our project forward .

Raw Material Costs
One of the other risks is that the aluminium price could suddenly increase due to demand from China - which would mean that we would investigate other alternatives such as silicone baking moulds .

Manufacturing Risks
Other risks would involve the fact that the Aluminium trays could be more easily damaged , as the metal is softer than the original steel proto types . We have tried to prevent the risk of damage by engineering the trays to have multiple supports that would hold up to the extreme heating and cooling - that results from oven use
