Putterball began with a dream to bring a golf themed backyard game to the masses. We set out to create a fusion of golf, competition, and beer (much like our typical Saturday afternoons) but remained focused on creating a game that everyone could enjoy, including those who have never actually played golf. The Putterball board is made of 100% high-density durable foam that you can walk on, stand on, and transport just about anywhere: back yard, front yard, beach, parking lot, driveway, your office (no drinking at work), your basement, your friend’s basement…even Grandma’s house. Its ultra light design makes it easy to store, and all you need to do is unfold it and crack open a few beers.
When we say that anyone can play Putterball, we damn well mean it. Other backyard golf games require the skills of a PGA Tour pro to enjoy. We’re not about that life. We love the game of golf as much as the next person, but we are realists. We know golf is f***ing hard. With that being said, anyone who has ever played mini golf (we estimate about 99% of the population) has the chance to become a Putterball master. The other one percent should drink an extra beer first.
- One Putterball Board – Made of high quality, high-density foam that is extremely durable and lightweight. Walk on it, stand on it, spill beer on it (we are not responsible for stains caused by party fouls) and transport it literally anywhere. Board measures 2.9 ft x 2 ft when folded, and 11 ft x 2 ft when unfolded.
- Two Putters – Two standard length (31 inches) metal mini golf putters, each with standard size rubber grip and blade style clubhead. Putters are center-shafted, and can be used by right-handed or left-handed players.
- Two Golf Balls – Two customized, regulation size golf balls with Putterball logo.
- Twelve Hole Covers – Just like in a classic game of beer pong, once you sink a putt, that hole is removed from play by using our specially designed covers. Covers create a seamless surface for the ball to roll over and are a unique feature to Putterball compared to other backyard golf games.
The rules of putterball are reminiscent of a standard game of beer pong: the objective is to make all six cups before the opposing team. Any additional rules from beer pong (death cup, naked lap, etc.) can be added at your own discretion.
Teams: A standard game of Putterball is played by two teams with two players on each team.
Honors: To determine which team takes the first turn, also known as “honors” in the golf world, it’s simple: ladies first. In the event there are no ladies present you can use a simple coin flip, or a classic duel of Rock, Paper, Scissors (best two out of three, obviously).
Turns: Teams take turns trying to make cups, with each player hitting one putt per turn. Once a cup is made, place a cover securely over the hole to remove it from play.
Redemption: Once a team has successfully made all six cups, the opposing team is given a chance at redemption. For example, Team A is the first team to make all six cups. Each player on Team B will then get one attempt to make as many cups as possible until he/she misses. If Team B is unable to make all of the remaining cups, Team A wins the game. If Team B is able to make all of the remaining cups, the game will be decided in overtime.
Overtime: The rules of overtime are the same as the original rules (one putt per player, per turn) but only the back three cups are uncovered. In the example above, Team A would have “honors” in overtime, since they were the first team to make all six cups in the original game. Overtime is played as sudden-death: the first team to make all three back cups wins the game. Sorry, no second chance at redemption…it’s time to let someone else play.
Our dream to bring Putterball to the masses began well over a year ago. For about two months, we spent our days driving back and forth to Home Depot and turned our garage into a total disaster. We like to think that we’re pretty handy and crafty: that proved only partly true. But after two months, we finally had a working prototype and could begin searching for a manufacturer. Finding a trusted manufacturer with a solid reputation proved just as difficult as the prototype process, and we weren’t about to fork over our hard earned money to just anyone. So, we flew to China. Twice. Amid the craziness of the most populated country in the world, we finally secured a partner and began testing sample orders (six sample orders to be exact) before deciding on the final product. Now, we are finally ready to begin taking pre-orders and start sharing our dream with you. With the help of some family friends, we developed a full scale business plan in order to deliver a limited number of Putterball sets before the holiday season. Come on, who doesn’t want to see their Grandma sink the winning putt in overtime? Help us bring our dream to life, and purchase your Putterball set today!
Putterball is what happens when two friends just can’t get enough golf in their lives. But it’s also what happens when those same two friends want to have fun with (and compete against) their friends and family who have never played golf before. We are two very average guys: average looking, average at golf, and average at writing. But we are damn good at mixing sports and drinking, and we’re always searching for new ways to have some friendly competition. We have invested countless hours and dollars to bring Putterball this far, and we won’t stop until we bring this great game to homes, tailgates, backyards, beaches, and clubhouses everywhere!

Risks and challenges
Very true! Whenever an idea is taken and transformed into an actual business, their are always some sort of risks involved. However, over the past 14 months, we've worked extremely hard and made the necessary connections to mitigate these risks as best as possible. Not only to protect ourselves, but most importantly to deliver on our promises for all of our amazing backers. With that said, no business can exist 100% risk free. The #1 potential issue we face is timing. We will do our absolute best to stick to the timeline we have laid out, but when importing a large quantity of product from overseas, it can get quite complicated as I'm sure you can imagine. A few key steps we've taken to overcome all potential risks are; 1) Secure a trusted manufacturer and actually visit their facility first hand... twice. 2) Have a trusted U.S. fulfillment and storage partner in place and ready to act as soon as the first shipment arrives at the port. 3) Develop a total of 6 prototypes, each improving on the last, to ensure that we deliver a top quality product. Although this is our first Kickstarter campaign, this is not our first business venture and we do have multiple years of experience dealing with overseas manufacturing. With all that said, we're not too worried but wanted to be upfront with all of our backers. Thank you so much for your support, we truly appreciate every single person and can't wait for you to receive your Putterball set.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
