WHAT IT’S ABOUT:
Night Cage is a 100-page graphic novel in which vampires take over a women’s prison. Picture Orange is the New Black meets Salem’s Lot.
Ravenwood Correctional Institution is a state-of-the-art maximum security prison built underground to make escape impossible. Thanks to brutal matrons, racial strife and savage shower room catfights, the place is a hellhole. But when a pale, mysterious murderess who turns out to be fledgling vampire arrives in the slammer, things REALLY get out of hand.
The vampire contagion swiftly spreads and soon every prisoner and every guard in the joint has been converted. All except for four badass women who’ve been tossed in solitary confinement at the very bottom of the jailhouse and overlooked. Trapped 230 feet below the surface of the earth in an escape-proof prison, their only hope of survival is to battle their way up through a gauntlet of bloodthirsty vampires.
Like the cast of The Poseidon Adventure, the motley crew of survivors must slowly work their way toward daylight, level after level, facing mounting obstacles and bickering with each other along the way. Their adversaries are plenty tough. Remember, they were ruthless killers, sociopaths and gang leaders even BEFORE joining the ranks of the undead!
The 8.5” X12” B &W book with color cover will be available in both softcover and hardcover.
Aribella – Our protagonist is a naïve “new fish.” Pure trailer trash, Aribella has been plagued with hard luck all her life and it looks like her streak isn’t about to let up any time soon. Lithe and blonde, she looks a bit like Gwyneth Paltrow without makeup. The newbie talks like a country bumpkin, but turns out to be surprisingly resourceful.
Peaches – A cynical lifer, she’s hardened to the violence of prison life. An African-American whose father was killed by the Klan, Peaches despises “poor white trash” like Aribella. She’s built like an Amazon, yet beneath her hard shell, she is compassionate and capable of self-sacrifice.
Angie – A wisecracking, gum-popping hooker, she’s handy with one-liners, even under the most harrowing circumstances. Angie is as voluptuous as Jessica Rabbit.
Lard Ass -- Weak-willed, vulnerable Lard Ass is so given to panic and blubbering that Angie votes her “most likely to die first.” She pines for her spiky-haired, tattooed girlfriend Star, who’s now a nosferatu. Lard Ass is on the flabby side, as her unflattering nickname suggests.
Bullox -- This burly, menacing guard is a sadistic brute who looks like Ernest Borgnine in drag. She’s fixated on Aribella, but manages to keep her dark cravings in check. That is, until she gets vampirized.
Sheila – A wealthy socialite who is seduced into vampirism and kills her husband as he battles her maker. When she arrives in prison, she’s fading fast and dies. Sheila awakens as a powerful vampire queen bent on transforming the jailhouse into her evil empire.
THE WRITER -- C. Michael Forsyth is a graduate of Yale College. He served as senior writer for Weekly World News, the infamous satirical newspaper, where he penned such classics as the Batboy and Washington Space Alien sagas. His other books include the paranormal mystery Sir Arthur Conan Doyle & Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in The Adventure of the Spook House. The Sherlock Holmes Society of London raves that it is “an adventure story with depth, full of atmosphere, suspense, ingenuity and a real feeling for place, period and personality … a cracking good read.”
The native New Yorker also earned praise for The Blood of Titans, a story of love and adventure set in a mythological kingdom in ancient Africa. It is “an engrossing and well-crafted tale … with details so sharp the reader is easily transported into it,’ according to Milton J. Davis, Editor of Griots: A Sword and Soul Anthology.
Forsyth’s blog, The Best and Worst of Horror, featuring bizarre tales of the supernatural, has had roughly 2 million visitors. A full bio, reviews, book trailers and more can be found at the author’s website.

THE LETTERER --The book will be lettered by Zach Methany, who has worked on Top Cow’s City of Heroes and The Kingstone Bible, as well as many projects for Glasshouse Graphics.
Risks and challenges
The primary challenge we foresee for this Kickstarter project is trying to exceed the $7,500 goal, which we set as a minimum figure. We want to be able to provide you with a physical book of the maximum possible quality. Also, our long-term goal is to attract the attention of film producers who are so blown away by the story they immediately want to adapt it for the big screen. You’d love to see a movie version, wouldn’t you? So would we!
So, anything you can do to help spread the word about the Night Cage Kickstarter project through social media will be greatly appreciatedLearn about accountability on Kickstarter
