What is a prototype?

A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

Proof of Concept

Explorations that test ideas and functionality.

Functional Prototype

Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.

Appearance Prototype

Looks like the final product, but is not functional.

Design Prototype

Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.

Production Prototype

Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.

About

WARNING:  This project will be cancelled the 13th of March because of the low acceptance. Nevertheless we will keep working on it so if you want to get more info just contact us.

V3D, a journey through 3d printing:

During our long expertise of more tan 6 years using 3d printing we are pioneering 3d printing for the fabrication of specifically made parts for orthopedical usage including special coatings such as carbon fibres, Kevlar etc. In adition to this, while trying to get optimal printing results with a low investment, we have carried out extensive studies with a wide variety of low cost printing machines screening all pros and cons for the common user of this potential technology.

As a result of all this research and practice, our CEO Jon gave a keynote in the last international OrtoMedicalCare congress  with a lecture named "3D, a new manufacturing method in orthopaedics"

V3D design and craft at the lecture in Ortomedical care 2018
V3D design and craft at the lecture in Ortomedical care 2018

In the Ortomedical care congress 2018 we showed up how professional 3D printing can change the manufacturing of orthoprothesical products like prosthetic sockets, and other orthoprothesical items. We also showed that if we print with the adequate material it is possible to post produce the pieces and go ahead with carbon and fibre glass coatings getting a high resistant and high quality finish. As a summary of all this know how we firstly presented for the first the prototype of the GNTR 3d printer with a high volume and low cost.

Professional tools for professional needs:

Much is said about how 3d printing is leading us to the future, and the multiple choices that additive manufacturing is offering in a wide range of sectors, from the artistic one,  design, biosanitary, and obviously  the industrial one, but reality is that not all professionals cannot take advantage of this great potential, and the main reasons are the low printing volume of the low cost printers and the high cost of the big volume ones

Another important point is maintenance, calibration and fine tuning of the printing machine in itself. This becomes an obstacle for professionals that being very good at their specific field, may not have the skills to carry out the maintenance, calibration and fine tuning of the 3d printer.

When a company decides to make a step forward introducing 3d printing in its day to day work  they may face that fabrication of a big part on a small 3d printer requires splitting of the part into small printing pieces that later on will need to be glued together to make the final big part. This greatly affects the quality and the precision of the final product. The logical step will be to acquire  a high printing volume machine, but the cost of this sort of printers is actually far away from what small and medium companies can afford, which clearly slows down the implementation of the additive manufacturing in this industrial sector that although being aware of the benefits cannot cope with the big investment required.

GNTR V1 as a complete solution:

Given our long experience in this field using 3d printing, and after solving the many problems encountered along the way we have come out with the GNTR v1 printer, that resolves the before mentioned problems of cost - printing volume and maintenance. This new printer GNTR v1 has a high volume printing capability, high performance, open source and low cost.

Characteristics

Load test

The GNTR_V1 3d printer is a big 3D printing machine, not only in volume but also in strenght. We've been testing its resistance to the weight of big printed pieces and it has shown up as an authentic Titan. 10 Kg plus the own weight of the printing platform. Here you have the load test inlive:

Why do we ask for a Kickstarter:

Based on our long experience in 3d printing and the investigation we have carried out in the field of high volume printing has lead out to the design of a printer that proved to word properly in any design situation and with any kind of printing material.  We launch this Kick starter project to achieve the following objectives:

  •  Although this new printer is fully operational and has been proven with different printing material such as PLAs, ABSs, Nylons, Nylon carbono, PETG, PET, PP , Flex, etc., we still would like to make it more robust. We will include a design with a rigid welded steel frame that avoids the typical vibrations associated with printing. While we get a better and resistant chassis in this phase, we are already working in the final step of our roadmap, that is to produce a 3D printer machine able to print PEEK, ULTEM and similar materials keeping a low market price.
  • We want to optimize the extruder (including also the dual extruder option) and maximize the printing dimensions while maintaining the compact machine concept.
  • We will work on a design for and optional closings for the 3d printer.
  • We want to achieve a standardized production of the printer and make an international commercial launch of it, so we will work to establish an adequate production and a shipment that guarantees a correct delivery of the product.

As we said given the design and characteristics of the printer we want to make it even more robust  so that it can be used by average professional user and also in the industrial field with an intensive usage.

Take a look to our Roadmap:

The GNTR v1 is just the first step in a much bigger strategy aimed to design a range of 3d printers that will share the communality of high volume printing, high performance and low cost.

Rewards

We have prepared a range of rewards so that anybody can back our project if they finally decide to.

From our most sincere thank you to the best 3d printer we can produce, you will find several options. Just notice the following:

  • If you select a T-shirt, please contact us with your size (XS-S-M-L-XL)
  • If you select T-shirt and key chain, please contact us with your size  (XS-S-M-L-XL) and select one of the following key-chain options:

          1) I made GNTR possible

          2) I'm a Kickstarter Backer

          3) Show me the money

  • Take into account that we will offer the GNTR v1 printer in 2 different rewards, one as an assembly kit and another one as an already assembled 3d printer with just the most delicate parts aside to protect them during the shipping.

Both options allows you to select the kind of extruder you want:

           1) single extruder: 1.75 mm  or 3 mm

           2) dual extruder: 1.75 mm

Shipping Options

We have settled an estimated cost for the shipping of our 3d printers reward, and just for Europe and U.S.A.

As we have explained before, we intend to provide international shipping options and that will be part of our hard work during the project, so if you are not from those mentioned places, and probably you will not ;-) just contact us to settle all the details for you.

Thanks a lot for your time and effort.

Risks and challenges

Every project runs with its own risks and challenges and this one is not an exception. As a brief summary these are the main ones:

1 ) Risks regarding the delay of the supplies that are needed to produce the GNTR v1 (both DIY kit and rigid frame):
We will contact our suppliers as soon as the campaign is succesfully finished, and we have take into account all the timings (supplies, labor time, etc) to get ready all the rewards on time. In case any issue occurs we will keep updated our backers community, not only here at kickstarteer but also in our web site.

2 ) Risks regarding the on time production:
Here at V3D we have sufficient and necessary resources to fulfil the demand of 3d printers that we have offered on this campaign. To achieve this point, we have payed attention to the shipping time of the supplies (as said before) as well as the labor time that each item requires. If a work overload occurs based on a high demand, we have a support team that we can partner with to deliver all the rewards on the specified dates. On the same way that with the delay of supplies, we will keep updated our backers community, not only here at kickstarteer but also in our web site.

3 ) Risks regarding the difficulty of asembly of the GNTR V1 aluminium DIY kits:
One of the strengths of the "high printing volume and low cost printer GNTR V1" is that its performance is very easy in order to keep under control the maintenance costs. This make them very easy to asemble even when the shipment requires the printer to be sent in parts to keep the shipping cost low. To get the courageous makers get to asemble the printer succesfully we will create a visual manual that will be available in exclusive to our backers.

4 ) Risks regarding the shipping costs:
We are used to deliver internationally but as the project requires to develop some improvements on the already existing design of the functional prototype, we will also need to work on the standardization of the packaging of all the printers to optimize the shipping costs too.
