Moral Dilemma is an adult party game for 4+ people. Gameplay is incredibly simple. On your turn, you pull a card and read:
You then secretly vote for A or B with your voting card. Next, the group is allowed to read the card. After much debate, and many red faces, the group votes together. Vote the same as the group, and you get a point. Vote differently - and society has spoken, you have been judged!
Ridiculous as it may seem, questions like this can sprout hours of fun and debate. With hundreds of unique moral dilemmas (and a few classics thrown in there), Moral Dilemma could one day be the next Cards Against Humanity.
What's included with your pledge?
Check out this handy table:
All print-copy backers will also receive a digital-copy, delivered as a PDF and individual JPEG images.
We will be using a trusted printer that makes extremely high quality and professional products but yet is relatively inexpensive. The final game will be styled very similarly to Cards Against Humanity. There will be over 200 cards in the base game. The cards you see here are drafts, so expect small changes in content as well as font, colour and layout.
Hi, we're the Moral Dilemma design team! We've made these videos for your viewing pleasure, and to put some real faces to the project! See, we are fun!
In Moral Dilemma, there is no right or wrong answer - only two very extreme choices. The person reading the card secretly votes their choice. It is then up to society (the group) to determine what the correct answer is. It's that simple.
Creating your own Moral Dilemma Card
Creating your own card is fun and easy. To not just own the game, but help design it, choose one of our many Creator pledge packages. We hope you will understand that we have final say on your submissions! We promise to work with you to get your idea in print-ready form. Your submission must have one A and one B choice. We will also put your name (or nickname, if you are embarrassed) in the bottom corner. Need some inspiration?
UNLOCKED "The Great Moral Dilemmas of History" Booster Pack ($3,500)
Re-live some of history's most controversial dilemmas! This booster pack is loaded with 25 history themed cards. You can mix them into the regular game, or play with them separately.
UNLOCKED "Option C" - the first expansion for Moral Dilemma ($4,500)
Each player starts the game with a "C" voting card. Each round, the player asking the question randomly selects an "Option C" card. Players can now vote for one of three options! This expansion will feature ~50 Option C cards.
UNLOCKED Categories ($5,000)
Straight from the backer suggestion box: a way to categorize and sort the Moral Dilemma cards based on their content. So you can choose to play with the wholesome and serious cards with the family, or the more silly and scandalous ones with your friends! Still just want to have all the cards mixed together? No problem!
UNLOCKED The Nicer Box ($6,000)
Moral Dilemma will look its best in a glossy box, complete with that new cardboard smell. We need to order a minimum of 500 units to get the pro box made.
UNLOCKED More Dilemma Cards ($7,500)
Even more cards added to the base game. We are currently figuring out how many cards we can add without blowing up the shipping costs. Stay tuned!
UNLOCKED Moral Compass Expansion AND Modes Expansion ($10,000)
To celebrate reaching $10,000 - an amazing 1000% above our original goal - we have something amazing to share with everyone. Not one, but two new expansions. These expansions are simple and don't take away from the beautiful simplicity of the base game.
The Moral Compass Expansion - Each round, one person is nominated by the group to be the Moral Compass. This person gets a second set of voting cards, essentially doubling this person's voting power, helping to break ties in a game with an even number of society members. The Moral Compass can also choose to vote two different ways, which is especially strategic when playing with...
Modes Expansion - There are now different ways to play each turn! The person asking the question selects which 'mode' they want before pulling a card:
- strategic mode (also known as classic) - the person asking the question gets a point if they vote the same as society
- honesty mode - the person asking the question gets a point if they vote the same as society and each member of society that voted the same as the person asking the question gets a point
- majority mode - every person in the majority gets one point, regardless of who is asking the question.
UNLOCKED Backer Suggested Booster Packs ($15,000)
We asked for your suggestions and votes on Facebook, and you responded in full force! We decided to include the top three finalists in the final game:
1) “The Zombie Apocalypse Pack - moral dilemmas that you might face whilst trying to survive the undead hordes” - submitted by Michael Caston
2) “The Relationship Pack - moral dilemmas aimed at people in relationships.” - submitted by Michael Caston
3) “The Parenthood Pack - moral dilemmas faced by those of us who know the pains of parenthood.” - submitted by Justin Doty
UNLOCKED The Moral Dilemma Website: a place for the dilemma community post Kickstarter ($35,000)
A website has much more to offer than just as another storefront. Facebook has proven to be a great space for people to share ideas and for us to post extra content and run fun contests. But not everyone uses Facebook! The idea that we are currently working towards includes a new space for backers to share content and gain access to expansions and ideas produced post-Kickstarter. Specifically, we want a spot where backers can create their own cards for their at-home set, download new and free content as it becomes available and a great new space for contests and other promotions. If we can reach $35,000, then this website can get made.
"Hey, didn't we just see you on KickStarter a few days ago?"
Yes. This is our second try at getting the funding for this game. What did we do wrong the first time? For starters, we were looking for the full $7,500 to make 1000 full copies of the game. We also did very little advertising. This time 'round, we've notified our backers from before and drastically lowered the amount of money we need to get the game off the ground. We had to make some small changes to each pledge level to reflect the realities of ordering in smaller quantity - but if we are fortunate enough to overfund our campaign, then we hope to reward our backers generously with extras and add-ons.

A note about shipping
Shipping is billed extra on top of your pledge. Shipping rates will vary depending on your location, and are calculated for you by Kickstarter. We've worked hard to reduce the shipping charge as much as humanly possible.
Risks and challenges
Game manufacturing relies on smooth communication with the factory and transporters. Some delays are possible, and are generally within one or two months of the posted delivery target. In case of loss of product during shipping, insurance kicks in and protects everyone's investment. Worst case scenario, a product run needs to be re-done and another month is added to the delivery date.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
