2-player co-op and Dreamcast port!

Wow, what a start to the campaign we can’t believe that we’re already 92% funded - thank you so much for all your support! Based on the feedback we’ve had so far (and now all 100 of the exclusive collector’s editions have gone) we’re pleased to announce a new reward level:

Xeno Crisis Kickstarter Edition

Only available to Kickstarter backers, this edition will have its own custom box / cartridge / manual design. Backers of this pledge will also have a hostage named after them in the game and receive exclusive stickers, postcards and an enamel pin-badge.

(Existing backers of the Collector’s Edition will also have a hostage named after them in the game and receive the stickers, postcards and an enamel pin-badge).

We’re also excited to announce a couple of stretch goals:

£25,000 - 2 player co-op mode

We’ve been inundated with requests for us to add a 2-player co-op mode to the game, and so we’ve decided to make this our first stretch goal. The additional player will be a female marine, and you’ll be able to choose who you play as before you start the game.

£35,000 - Sega Dreamcast Port

A Dreamcast version of Xeno Crisis is something we discussed some time ago, and given both the phenomenal reception of the Kickstarter campaign and feedback from the community, we felt like now was the time to commit to it!

We’ve added a new pledge for those of you who just want the Dreamcast version. Backers of the physical editions of Xeno Crisis will be able to add £20 to their pledge to receive the Dreamcast version.

@Cireza - thanks for the advice and suggestions, we're definitely tracking ROM size very closely we worked years ago back on old Nokias with tiny size limits :-)

Also : Dreamcast version should output (if possible) all signals : 240p, 480i and 480p through VGA.

Be careful with your stretch-goals, or you will end up being stuck under a mountain of work to do, and will never be able to deliver the game when expected.

You already decided to add a entirely new version of the game (Dreamcast). That's great, but I can already see the huge amount of work implied. Translations in all languages ? Of course this is great, but I can also see the constraints that come with the MegaDrive and its limited ROM size. Handling several version because all languages don't fit in the ROM would make things more complicated.

For now, the game size is maybe totally under control, but be careful that it does not rises significantly because of all the stretch goals...

Thanks for all the Dreamcast love! We'll certainly take in everyone's comments and feedback when finalising the plans for the port.

480p VGA support? Any VMU support? Rumble? Would love to hear more about what the Dreamcast is getting.

" The Dreamcast version will be true to the Mega Drive version" I second this, please don't make an enhanced version that would make the MD one obsolete before it's even out. :(

Thanks for all the feedback and great to hear how excited everyone is about Xeno Crisis!

Really excited to see a 2-player CO-OP mode and Dreamcast port on the horizon! Can't wait to play this one on the almighty Dreamcast. Something to think about, online leaderboards! A game like this just screams high score competition.... and seeing the Dreamcast has a built-in modem (which nowadays can be connected to a broadband connection thanks to the magical powers of a DreamPi) it seems like a perfect fit and indie fist :)

Nicely done! This is the most excited I've been for a MD game since MK2.

Awesome news :) added the extra £20. thanks for the extra goodies, the pin-badge stickers etc, really cant wait for this now.........gonna be so cool having my name in the credits, don't care how hard its going to be to see the credits, but I know the kids will get a kick out of seeing dads name in a game :)

      cheers

Ok then, I'll change mine back then - thanks for the clarification. Might add an extra £25 in that case :D

    12. Bitmap Bureau Creator on December 12

@Robbie Sabo - yes adding £20 extra on a physical Mega Drive pledge means you will get the Dreamcast version in addition to the Mega Drive.

    13. Robbie Sabo on December 12

Do we get the Dreamcast version in addition to the Mega Drive version, or does the £20 just upgrade to the Dreamcast version of the game? I'd like both, but if it just changes the MEga Drive copy to a Dreamcast, I'll just purchase a Dreamcast copy at a later date :)

I'll def add a dreamcast copy once you hit that stretch goal!!

@Michael Hodgson - If you click on your existing pledge "Manage Pledge" you can set the amount and increase it by £20, the pledge amounts aren't fixed for each reward. I hope that helps.

    16. Michael Hodgson on December 12

Just trying to add the Dreamcast version. Do I add £20 via the "Make a pledge without a reward"? I'm confused :(

    17. Michael Hodgson on December 12

This is great! I love the Dreamcast. Now I need to make a friend so we can ply co-op :P

@Dominic Palma - we'll be looking to extend the different hostage types so we'll certainly have female hostages.

@Xavier Constantin - The Dreamcast version will be true to the Mega Drive version but naturally the control systems will be adapted to work with the standard Dreamcast controller as well as the arcade stick. If you add £20 to your pledge for a physical edition of Xeno Crisis then you will receive the Dreamcast version.

If the name for the Hostage is a female's name, will the Hostage also look female?

I have two questions regarding the Dreamcast version:

      1. Will the Genesis and Dreamcast versions be the same, except the format?

      2. Will I be able to add the Dreamcast version as an add-on, if I already have the Genesis CE?

      Thanks!
