Our primary goals are to communicate and connect through movement. Without these actions there is no kinetic echo, no understanding, no empathy, no questioning, and no response.
This Kickstarter Project:
We are excited about this, our first Kickstarter project. The date is set, rehearsals are in motion, and the contract is signed. But, American University's Greenberg Theatre rental fees are not free. In order to perform without going into the red, we need your help. We are asking for funding to: 1) cover our share of the theater rental fees, 2) pay for costumes for our new work, Astri--or not, and 3) reimburse travel expenses for our dancers. We must raise $1,800 to cover these expenses.
If we do not reach our goal of $1,800 in pledges by April 19th, we will receive no pledged money at all. That's the way Kickstarter works, all or nothing.
If additional funds are raised, above the $1,800 sought, we can then begin to pay our dancers for rehearsing and performing (they truly should be paid).
Here's our story:
On May 10, 2014 our first performance at American University in Washington, DC will include the premiere of our newest work, Astri--or not. This piece with music composed and performed by David O'Malley, is now in rehearsal. It manifests a wide dynamic range and rich physicality as it pulls the audience into the world of the dance.
In addition to this premiere we will also present two repertory pieces. Maga, a solo choreographed and performed by Kista Tucker in 1994 addresses the age old question, "What is beauty?" Tucker herself, will perform this memorable work.
Genevieve of the Woods, a work created in 2009 around the concept of "other," or "the other" shares a portion of the life of one member of the community who is quietly shunned.
This will be our first concert in Washington, DC since our 2013 performance at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
More about us:
We are resourceful. In order for all our past projects to have occurred (they are rich and plentiful) we have figured out ways to get things done--with integrity. Our non-profit, tax-exempt company is now 19 years old (established in 1994, incorporated in 2008) and going strong on a very low budget. Just think how strong we would be with a bigger budget. Kista Tucker Insights (AKA: Kista Tucker Dance, Inc.) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, tax-exempt organization. Check out our website: KistaTucker.com
Partial list of KTI former projects:
- The Korean War Veterans Memorial Project
- Randolph County, Kista's Evening Length David Lynch Project
- The PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) Benefit Concert
- The Kista Tucker 2014 Summer Intensive -- (Kista began her dance intensives in the 1990's)
- Our concert at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts
- Residencies and Festival Appearances in Cambridge, England; New York, Michigan, Ohio, Florida, Texas, Tennessee, Indiana, Rhode Island, Connecticut
- Performances in Europe, Japan, Mexico, Canada, and throughout the United States
- Presentations at numerous conferences
We are sharing this concert with Trajectory Dance Project, a company from Baltimore, MD. Without this joint effort neither Trajectory nor KTI would be able to afford this production. We could find an alternative space, a tiny theater space, or a sight specific space, but they do not support the type of work we want to present. We need a sophisticated space with a good floor, more than adequate lighting, suitable seating, and professional production elements. So, Alice Howes, of Trajectory Dance Project and Kista Tucker, of Kista Tucker Insights got together and decided to share this venue.
The Kickstarter funds for this project are dedicated to Kista Tucker Insights. The Trajectory Dance Project is raising its own money.

Risks and challenges
The date is set, rehearsals are in motion, and the contract is signed. This concert will happen. Our primary risk with completing this Kickstarter project is in getting the word out and getting people to pledge. If our goal of raising $1,800 is not met by April 19th, we will receive nothing. Please help us avoid going into the red.
