EMPIRES GALACTIC REBELLION! A board game homage to Star Wars
NEWS FLASH #2 -- January 5, 2016!
(January 5, 2016 5PM -- Six more hours left to pledge!) -- We have decided to include ALL Stretch Goals when we hit $116,000 in pledges! So that means at $116,000 in pledges, ALL Pledge Levels will receive 8 additional Imperial Action Cards; 8 additional Covert Mission Cards; 10 additional Victory Point tokens; and 6 additional Tech Tiles!
Empires: Galactic Rebellion hands you the reins in an interstellar clash for control of the Galaxy. Take ownership over one of five factions and assert your supremacy in this exciting new board game from designer Glenn Drover.
As the leader of a rebel front, you must manage your personnel wisely to discredit the Empire, lobby the Senate, build up your military strength, and develop new technology all while maintaining relations with your civilian supporters.
Take care, however, as the Galactic Empire's elite Sentinel units will be watching for any chance to destroy you, and at any time another faction could stab you in the back. When all is said and done only victors take the spoils. Will historians name your battle a failed rebellion, or will it be the start of a new and better empire?
Topple the empire, join the Galactic Rebellion today!
A loudspeaker blares from the central public square of the Capital:
"Citizens of the Galactic Empire, this is not a test. I repeat--THIS IS NOT A TEST! Rebel dissidents have broken Sentinel lines around the habitable zone and curfew is now in effect. Non-compliance is a capital offense and violators will be executed. The Galactic Rebellion will be quashed at all costs."
Discontent festers at the fringes and in the Capital of the Galactic Empire. Seditious whispers across light years of empty space have grown to a chorus of audacity, forcing the Senate to acknowledge open rebellion as a real possibility. Unrest organizes in the shadows of sovereign space as the Senate remains divided on to how meet and suppress the growing threat. For their part, the rebels lack focus; their discord exceeded only by their hatred of the Galactic Empire. Competing visions of what life after the Empire should look like prevent cooperation between the rebellious factions. Leaders arise out of the squabble to gather about them the forces to achieve their righteous views of the future. You are one of these leaders.
Backers -- Please note that while most of what is shown as components below are final, sculpts of the plastic miniatures are still in progress (based on the sketches shown) and are thus not final. Some artwork will change as well, not big changes but there will be some. So, we are nearly final but allow for some changes to be made before final production!
There are 678 fully sculpted plastic miniatures and 110 Metal Coins in the Limited Edition of Empires: Galactic Rebellion!
Empires: Galactic Rebellion is a board game of intrigue and machination from designer Glenn Drover. Play as one of five rebel factions opposing the Galactic Empire and utilize your resources effectively to win the favor of the populace by any means necessary.
Empires: Galactic Rebellion is played on a map which includes 8 planetary hubs within the Galactic Empire, and each player receives 80 workers of six types with which to execute actions on the map and Event Board. Each type of worker -- Rebels; Troopers; Scientists; Smugglers; Diplomats and Heroes, receives benefits while executing various tasks. Players will have three epochs with three turns each to command their workers toward the goal of winning the most victory points. On the third turn of the third Epoch, the Galactic War will commence and only one winner will be left standing!
PLAY FREE ONLINE WITH TABLETOPIA: Tabletopia is a digital board gaming platform. They’ve set up their app for Empires: Galactic Rebellion so anyone can play the game exactly as if you were playing at a real table! Invite your friends and try the game out!
Tabletopia is a sandbox (there is no AI or rules enforcement), so players should be sure to know the rules of the game before starting! The Game begins set up for 5 players; however, you will still need to randomize the turn order, give out the additional UC based on Turn Order and seed Rebel units as per Turn Order set up. There are placards on the board to describe these steps as well as complete set up if you want to play with fewer players.
Empires: Galactic Rebellion is a follow-up to Empires: Age of Discovery (formerly Age of Empires: III). But despite having a similar frame, Galactic Rebellion plays quite differently than its predecessors.
TAKE THAT! Galactic Rebellion has a more rough and tumble, "in your face" competitive flavor. Combat is a bigger part of the game, as you would expect, and the ability to directly affect events and sometimes use 'take that' type of plays via the Galactic Senate and Covert Missions, makes the game more of a blood-sport than a dry calculation of victory points. (This is Sparta!)
VARIABILITY & REPLAYABILITY: The Galactic Senate and Covert Mission cards also give the game a greater sense of variability and replayability. The story that is spun by these cards makes each play session unique. This gives Galactic Rebellion a new and "blank slate" story line with every play!
THEME: The theme fits the game play like a glove. You really get the feeling of trying to grow your rebellion against the backdrop of an oppressive and corrupt space empire, and while directly competing with the other rebel factions. And because of this, it's really a fun gaming experience.
GALACTIC WAR: Just before the end of the game, on what would be the third turn of the third epoch, the Galactic Empire launches an all-out attack across the entire galaxy. If the players have been too focused on each other and haven't weakened the Empire's military forces enough, the nascent planetary rebellions may be snuffed out. So there is a subtle underlying co-operative element to each game as well, given the common Imperial enemy.
For the past 15 years, Eagle Games (now Eagle-Gryphon Games) has built a reputation for producing high production quality games with lots of great components and terrific game play. One need not look further back than the Gallerist (released just six weeks ago) to see such fantastic praise.
Glenn Drover's Empires: Galactic Rebellion is most comparable, in terms of production and game play, to Glenn Drover's Empires: Age of Discovery (released in August, 2015). Here are excerpts of reviews for both The Gallerist and Empires: Age of Discovery:
Become both a Kickstarter Backer and an Entrepreneur! We need your support to get this game produced. Empires: Galactic Rebellion is created by well-known designer Glenn Drover, improves upon familiar mechanics (from the very popular Empires: Age of Discovery), and fully integrates the epic space opera theme. However, even though the Game has been in the works for Eons, and playtested like crazy, there hasn’t been enough time for a wider audience to play so far. We know that can trigger a reluctance to back a project, so to make up for this, we’ve partnered with Tabletopia platform to make sure all of you can play and test the game for for yourselves!
On top of this, if you back Empires: Galactic Rebellion not only will you get the game (for a great price and some terrific Kickstarter Stretch Goals we might add), but once the game is produced you will have the option to purchase two additional copies of this game (at the same level as your pledge) for 50% off MSRP! Why are we doing this? Because we absolutely love this game, and believe you’ll love it too. With action-packed gameplay and top-notch production quality we want to get Galactic Rebellion on as many tables as we can! Besides — Entrepreneurs should be rewarded for taking a chance and speculating on the success of this game along with us.
Thank you for being along for the ride, and as always, HAPPY GAMING!
Add-Ons have been the source of a lot of issues in the past. It is very expensive for us to coordinate and pay for shipping and stocking goods in four or more locations around the world. As a result, we are only offering these add-ons AFTER the KS program ends (via our survey that you will receive within two weeks after this KS ends) AND we are only offering them to US and Canadian Backers for certain. For backers in the EU, Australia, and Asia and South America, we will provide these Add-Ons first come, first served, only if there is sufficient stock on hand in these locations to fill your orders. If we do not have the stock needed, we will offer you a FULL refund. There will be an additional cost for shipping (matching our costs for shipping, no profit-taking on shipping), and you will be advised of those extra shipping costs after you have filled out and returned the survey and worksheet. If the shipping costs prove unacceptable to you, you will not be charged anything additional for Add-ons. If the shipping charges are acceptable, you will pay for the Add-ons and use PayPal or make a wire payment.
There may be other Add-ons added when the survey and worksheet are sent to backers 10-14 days after the end of this Kickstarter -- i.e. around January 15-20, 2016.
We like to support game stores around the world by offering the special Kickstarter versions of the game to retailers during the campaign. We treat retailer backers just like other backers, so as with all backer purchases you'll receive Empires: Galactic Rebellion along with all the achieved stretch goals! Generally, the minimum order is one case (4 copies) of any of the 3 game versions (can be mixed) -- Standard, Deluxe, and Limited Edition. And your price is 50% of the MSRPs shown. In general, you are responsible for shipping expenses, but this can change depending upon your location and the size of your order. We want to acknowledge and thank those retailers and distributors who have pre-ordered this game and agreed to help us distribute it in their country to Kickstarter Backers:

Risks and challenges
Eagle-Gryphon Games stands by our products. If there are issues with your game, please contact our customer service department within 60 days of receiving your copy of the game you have pledged for. We will take every step necessary to get you exactly what you pledged for. Contact: firstname.lastname@example.org. We do not accept responsibility for messages that end up in SPAM, that’s out of our control.
Shipping issues are relatively uncommon, but they do sometimes occur, especially when shipping to destinations outside of the US. We will obtain tracking information when it is possible, but sometimes it is not. We cannot guarantee that there will not be shipping problems, as we cannot guarantee the service and reliability of the various postal/delivery services involved around the world. You will have to assume that risk along with us.
We are a games publisher and not a shipping/delivery/governmental postal carrier. We do not ship damaged games out to you. But occasionally they are damaged in shipping by the carrier. Please keep in mind that we did not cause that damage, nor are we responsible for it. Your first recourse is to recover your losses (if any) from the carrier, not us. However, if you are reasonable about it, we will work with you to document and recover these losses as well.
Eagle-Gryphon Games has completed over 50 Kickstarter projects to date. Virtually all of those projects have either completed delivery or they are in the midst of it right now! Five projects, successfully completed on Kickstarter within the past few months, include these 5 -- Defenders of the Realm Dragon Expansion; Morocco, the Ferti Sugoi series; Taluva Deluxe; and Attack Deluxe. All of those games are in various stages of either production or shipping to Backers.
We keep Backers notified by Updates about the status of their projects. We deliver on our promises reliably and usually on time (the very few delays we have ever had were related to production schedule issues and/or transport issues such as weather and dock strikes, which we have only, at best, partial or NO control over).
To put it simply, you will get everything you are promised when you pledge to one of our Kickstarter Projects, and it will be delivered to you in as timely a manner as possible.
Shipping can be problematic and expensive. We ask that you are patient and tolerant and share the burden with us of making sure that shipping is as positive an experience as it can be. But be aware of what is involved please.
We will ship US orders from our Eagle-Gryphon Games warehouse in Kentucky; Canadian orders from Board Games Bliss in Ontario; Australian orders from The Games Capital in Canberra; and Asian orders from our warehouse in Shenzhen, China (mainland). Many EU orders will ship from our warehouse in Enschede, The Netherlands and some might be shipped directly from your home country, if other print partners join us in co-productions! UK Backers will get their games from BoardGameGuru in London. We do all this in an effort to keep expenses low but this much shipping also introduces more chances for damage and delays. We cannot avoid this risk, and save money for you. So we ask that you join us in assuming some of the risk when it is not ours either, and that you are as tolerant and patient as need be about the estimates we make many months before as to "Estimated Delivery" dates in the Rewards section. Many things about this estimate are simply NOT within our control, and you must agree to be tolerant and accepting of those delays. We will do our best to keep things on time, but we simply cannot assure you that we will meet these “made-well-in-advance” estimates.
It has been our experience that many people (including sophisticated international Kickstarter Backers) frequently confuse "shipping" expense and "postage" expense. What we try to cover with “shipping fees” is shipping expenses, not just postage. Postage is the actual charge your country's postal service (or UPS, FedEx, etc) charges us to deliver a package within that country.
Shipping is far more comprehensive and includes: getting the container shipped to the US, or the EU, or Australia; the Customs and VAT (or equivalent) and other import fees and taxes; the drayage from the port to the warehouse; the warehouse fees to unload and sort out and prepare packages; the materials and labor involved in the last item; fees to the warehouse for their service to us, and only after all of that, the postage! We need to cover all of those costs--and they really add up. Frequently they cost as much or more than the game(s) did to produce.
When we combine a low margin price (such as the one we offer on all of our KS projects) with this shipping expense, we do not make any profit if we are not very careful. We hope that the shipping we are charging for this project is as low as we can make it and still stay in business. We ask that you understand this and when we occasionally make mistakes in quoting shipping expenses and that you accept these changes. We will always give you a refund if we must make shipping fee changes and they are not acceptable to you.
We also reserve the right to combine the shipping of any and all pledges for multiple KS projects if the projects and the shipping are run close to the same time and if we can ship them all within a reasonable time (30 days) of us receiving them in our Kentucky warehouse. Of course, we will advise you ASAP if it looks like we will be holding up shipping for this reason and you will always have the right to pay additional fees to get expedited delivery on individual orders/pledges.
Internationally, for unusual shipping destinations or multiple games, get in touch with us and tell us the total how many games you want and which ones; and where you would like them shipped.
To get in touch with us, please send us a Message (not a Comment please) using the "Contact Me" button at the top of the KS project.
We will not ship to Russia, the Ukraine and select places in Asia and the rest of the world, except for specially-made arrangements wherein the Backer takes the risk involved in receiving the package.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
