A huge “THANK YOU!” to everybody that has pledged already. If all goes to plan, we will be releasing our debut EP in December, just in time for Christmas! We’d love to put a little something extra into our pledgers’ stockings. So, how about this?
If we can hit £2500 by the end of the Kickstarter project, ALL of our pledgers will receive an extra song along with their EP, and anyone who has pledged £7 or more will receive an extra special Christmas present along with their CD. But you can’t open it until Christmas Day! ;-)
Let’s make it a feathery Christmas!
The Black Feathers
The band is made up of guitarist Ray Hughes and singer/songwriter Sian Chandler. Having played together for many years in various projects, we decided to break away and collaborate as a duo, writing and performing our own material.
Strangers We Meet
We've had a very busy first year, touring all over the UK, and a short tour in the US too. But we knew we needed to find time to record our first EP.
Under the watchful eye of James Towler (engineer) and Richard Neuberg (producer), we recorded the guitar and vocals at Wincraft Studios in Gloucestershire.
All the sessions were recorded live. No headphones. No click tracks. Just raw honest playing!
And it was hard work. We knew we done a day's work by the end of it. Best nights' sleep we ever had!
We then moved to Richard's own Strawhouse Studios in Oxford for additional production.
First we had the lovely Anna Jenkins (Frank Turner, Emily Barker and the Red Clay Halo) come in and play some beautiful violin and viola parts.
Then came Mark Hodgson on double bass, quickly followed by Dzal Martin on guitar, Rupert Irving on percussion, Evan John on mandolin, and Steve Lawson on bass guitar.
It was an enjoyable and rewarding experience working with such amazingly talented people. We'll never be able to thank them enough for helping bring our vision to life.
Big Blue Music
Mixing duties were delegated to Steve Ancliffe at Big Blue Music in London. He must have the patience of a saint. Quite how he put up with our constant questions and tweaks, we will never know!
So, what's next?
We're so close to finishing the EP off. Just the last bit of mixing, then mastering, and manufacture.
It's been an expensive project, far more expensive than we expected, and we've just run out of money and assets.
We need to get this out there.
We need to get it to you.
But we need your help to do it...
Risks and challenges
This is the first time we have undertaken a project like this. Working with other artists to try and achieve our goal has proved a difficult, but very rewarding experience.
We have made many mistakes along the way, which have cost us dearly, though there were many more we would have made were it not for the guidance and advice of the people working with us.
Thankfully, we have learned from our mistakes, and the music hasn't suffered from them, which was always the most important thing.
We're on the final stretch now. The end is in sight.....Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
