Hi! My name is Sarah Jolley, and I'm a cartoonist!
I've been creating The Property of Hate, a dreamscape/fantasy adventure comic, since 2012. I successfully self-published the first volume and sold out of the entire print run. I'm now ready to print Volume 2, and I've decided to run a Kickstarter campaign so I can make it a very handsome volume. The best part? If this all goes super well, this will also be a Kickstarter for a reprint of Volume 1! But stretch goals can wait- what the heck is this comic about anyway?
The story covers the adventures of a hero (who is known as... Hero), a young girl from Manchester who is recruited by a monster called RGB; a rather dapper chap with a television for a head. Sound fun? It is! Well. Mostly. It's also a little bit scary, a lot of bit surreal, and with a certain amount of sadness mixed in. But why take my word for it? You can read the whole thing for free! You can easily find it both here on my home website along with all my other stories, or here on SmackJeeves if you like a space to leave your commentary!
Volume 2 will pick up where Volume 1 left off at the beginning of Chapter 7: P.O.V. and will contain seven chapters (ending at the close of the chapter 'Hoofers'). It will be just as the first book was- a glossy A4 sized book with a brand spanking new cover design and some sneaky little extras in the back, including a translator page for one of the characters who speaks in morse code! Doesn't that sound nice? I sure think it does.
We'll also have some neato extra rewards, such as stickers and badges! And, if we reach our stretch goal, a whole new batch of Volume 1 with a matching new front cover design! Hot dog. Imagine that. I've even got a set of tarot postcards featuring some of the main cast so you can send weird stuff to your friends! Nice.
We've set our stretch goal at $35,000- if we reach this goal, we can reprint Volume 1! We'll open up new tiers that offer both books if and when we get there.
I've paired up with the wonderful crew at Make That Thing so that I can spend more time making the content, and less time handling all that pesky distribution and parcelling business- they're helping me run the campaign and print the books too! Better for my hands, better for the story, and better for getting the rewards out to you good folks quickly and efficiently!
So, whether you're a new reader or an already established tellyhead, if this idea sounds good to you why not join the party and shout about it to your friends? Together we can make this technicolor fever-dream a reality! Well... maybe not absolutely literally, but we can print it out into delicious A4 paper-flavour books, and I need your help to do that! So, really, at this point there's only one question to ask yourself:
Do you want to be a hero?
Risks and challenges
Printing books can come with unique difficulties, but I'll be working alongside the crew at Make That Thing to keep production and order management well in line. They've done this before countless times, have a sparklingly spotless reputation, and have all the experience and know-how needed to tackle any problems that might come up. Whether it's with print costs, delays, or shipping issues, there's nobody better to handle the challenge. They're a really chill set of people, and I have complete confidence in their professional capacity!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
