is an airplane hotel with special attention on merging hospitality, ambiance
and luxury. The day that you can
choose to overnight in a Boeing 727
is almost here.
Airplanehome is a unique and durable concept where old airplanes will be given a new life by re-using them for the hospitality industry. Born out of passion for aviation and the drive to do the right thing for our society.
Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve had a passion for the aviation industry. Airplanes and the sky always gave me a sense of freedom and being able to go where ever I wanted. Having your own airplane, the ultimate form of luxury. Confined to the superrich as a part of their daily lives, for others a long-standing hope.
Airplanehome will attain the unattainable by letting you overnight, have a business meeting or even a party in a real Boeing 727. The design of Airplanehome will take you back to the seventies, where a flight was much more than travelling from A to B in the cheapest way. Comfort and hospitality instead of limited leg space and imperfect service. During the stay over at Airplanehome, the whole airplane will be at the guest’s disposal. The stewardess offers a warm, but discreet welcome and ensures the well-being of the guests. Take a seat in the cockpit before going to bed and enjoy the ambiance of spending a night in your very own airplane.
captain, you are fully in charge.
The missing link in the realization of Airplanehome is you.
The permits, research, calculations, drawing work, design and web management have all been completed in detail. These costs are already paid and now the only thing left is to transport the Boeing 727 to Maastricht and transform the airplane into a hotel suite & lounge. And with this I need your help.
The realization of Airplanehome
Airplanehome is a unique and sustainable hotel, it’s a model of social and innovative entrepreneurship. As the driving force behind Airplanehome, I would like to fulfil my dream via crowd funding. By using Kickstarter I’m hoping to find other aviation enthusiast, people who look for unique overnight locations or anyone else who has the same dream as I do. With the help of investors and fans I will not only be able to transport the airplane to Maastricht/Aachen Airport, but I will also be able to transform the airplane into a sustainable, unique, versatile and educational hotel.
Maastricht/Aachen Airport is a medium sized airport in the south of the Netherlands. A well populated area between Germany and Belgium. More than six million people live within a 100km radius of the airport. Travellers can make use of the bigger airports nearby, like Amsterdam, Brussels and Düsseldorf.
Social and sustainable responsibility
I want to differentiate myself in terms of sustainability and innovation. To reach this goal I cooperate intensively with the Aviation Competence Centre, located only a stone throw away from Airplanehome. Students from the ACC can gain experience with “real life situations” by using Airplanehome for exercise and certain elements of the airplane will be donated to the school.
I went to Cambodia to establish contacts with an educational institution. When booking at Airplanehome, guests have the possibility to donate a gift to this school. These gifts will make sure that the children in less prosperous regions get the education they deserve. Besides this, Airplanehome is also accessible for disabled people. In this way people who might never experience a flight, will now be able to experience the world of aviation and hopefully gain a day to never forget.
To be really sustainable and durable, Airplanehome can’t just be a unique hotel. I’m keeping building costs down by using a phased out airplane that would otherwise get destroyed. Furthermore, the wings of the airplane will be fitted with solar panels and the entire airplane will be equipped with energy-efficient lighting and equipment. To truly gain sustainability and durability, I made sure that 98% of the interior is made from recycled materials. Even the wooden furniture of the hotel room and business lounge are made from old Cambodian fishing boats. The aluminium from the airplane will be re-used in other parts of Airplanehome. All other products are from biological origin.
Your help is needed
The plans for Airplanehome have been worked out in detail. However I still need help from small or big investors and fans to realize my biggest wish. I’m looking for people who would like to attach their name to this unique project with the help of Kickstarter. Together we can make sure Airplanehome will be landed in Maastricht, so we can set up this unique concept.
Airplanehome has a perspective for continued cooperation. By keeping communications with the backers and investors open and showing where or what the money is spend on. Full disclosure is what you can expect from Airplanehome. An one-off investment in return for a continued cooperation, that is an interface that expresses everything I stand by as an entrepreneur!
I could talk for hours about this project. But the only thing that matters is, that with your help Airplanehome can become a reality in 2018!
After a successful crowdfunding
campaign on Kickstarter is successful, we will take stock of the results.
Since all the permits are already organized and thus no extra costs are attached, all received money will be directly put in the realisation of the project.
to get an airplane that is perfectly suitable for this project and it costs
nearly nothing. Because of the well thought-out idea of Airplanehome, the owner
is willing to donate the airplane!
However, the airplane needs to be transported to Maastricht. Thereafter, the airplane needs to be transformed into a hotel while still upholding the interior and safety standards.
In order to realize this project properly, a lot of money is needed. I’ve invested all I can, however for the realization more is needed, and for this I really need your support more than ever!
Of course, you will get something in return to show you my appreciation. Depending on your donation, you yourself can choose between high quality items, developed in the Netherlands, a stay over at Airplanehome, or a spot on the Wall-of-Fame. For the business investors, there’s a great eye-catcher that has been reserved on the nose of the airplane. The business name with the text “made possible by” will be visible to all visitors of Airplanehome. And if you’re really a fan, there’s the possibility to obtain a unique USB drive. This USB contains the idea, the campaign, the numbers and the realization. All details filmed for your entertainment.
Did you support me by buying an item on Kickstarter? Please share it with everyone and add your personal text about why you think supporting Airplanehome is important. Who knows, maybe more people will follow? Airplanehome will release a editorial article on her website which you can add to your text message. Do you have the possibility to send your text to the local media? Please do it. All forms of attention will help with the realization of this great project. Maybe you will just take that little step extra, what afterwards seems to be a great extra step!
In case we are able to successfully close the Kickstart campaign, Airplanehome will be a fact! I often see crowdfunding campaigns pass by in where only is asked to refund the preparation costs. For Airplanehome this is not the case, as the preparation is already financially fulfilled. With the earned amount, we will pay the transport and interior of the airplane. Airplanehome is and stays my property and as the owner I will guarantee all responsibilities for this fantastic project. Because of the work experience, the good preparation, the network and of course because of the passion for aviation, I am the perfect person to realize this concept. Years of preparation will be combined in 2017 in order to realize this much-discussed hotel.
Fulfilling a dream, from 2017 on not only a big wish for a lot of people that is only confined to the superrich. For the CEO’s, rappers and globetrotters it is part of their daily life, for others a long-standing hope. Having your own airplane. The ultimate form of luxury. The world lies at your feet. Please help me and come on board!
Risks and challenges
Risks and challenges
Nobody would like to see a good idea vaporize, ideas and dreams are there to make them come true. When you talk about with people who have experience with this, they will confirm it. Airplanehome started with a dream too. I have been dreaming of setting up a unique concept for years and in December 2012 I took the decision to give wings to this concept by visiting the management of Maastricht Aachen Airport. Since that moment, I am effectively busy with realizing this concept. After the agreement on a location at the airport, I wrote a business plan. The subjects I could not research myself are executed by third parties. These included a lot of research and calculation because who will become the clients and which references are there? Because there are not a lot of existing concepts like mine it made the homework more difficult. Once everything was fully analysed,
I went to the municipality of Beek, the municipality in where the airport is situated. After the meeting with the mayor in where I received the “yes” to my plans, we started with obtaining the permits. This is a usual next step, because in the Netherlands you need a permit for almost everything. As the years passed by everything is in order now. Meanwhile, I quitted my job in order to fully concentrate me on this project.
In between the obtainment of the permits, I was able to design and form Airplanehome from both the outside as the inside. Of course, the municipality wants to know what the end product looks like. A good architect helped me in determining what the most practical is and in the end a beautiful design arose from this, as you can see on the pictures.
Every project on Kickstarter, every new business that starts, every investment, there are always risks attached. Luckily, I have been thinking and calculating for years about this concept, so I am convinced it will become profitable in the end. Partly because of Kickstart, this project can survive without too high expectations. Even when necessary investments need to be done in a couple of years, even when the expected occupancy rate is not met. The success of Airplanehome is mostly depending on the success of Kickstarter, in case we reach this, Airplanehome will become a fact!
Paul Wijers, owner of Airplanehome, started his business already. Everything has been completed in detail, regarding the permits, research, calculations, drawing work, design and web management. The costs of this are already paid and the only thing left is the search for equity in order to transport the Boeing 727 to Maastricht and to transform the airplane into a hotel suite & lounge.
In case you invested at Kickstarter and the goal is not reached, your money will be refunded. This guarantee applies to every Kickstart project. In case the goal is reached, and this is where we aim for, than it will be the missing link of Airplanehome.
Unfortunately, Paul Wijers has not the adequate financial resources to transport the airplane to Maastricht and to transform the airplane in the desired hotel. However, he is convinced that there is sufficient potential at the people who share the same passion as he does.
As soon as the financial part is completed and Kickstarter transferred the money to the bank account of Airplanehome, the process can be put in practice. Everything has been formalized and is well-substantiated and calculated. The main concern is to get the airplane at the final place. Once this is realized, we, together with the team, can make sure a great end product will be set up.
Companies who wants to exclusively earn money on this project are not welcome. Paul has made a selection of people who together form the “dream team”, people who are searching for a challenge like Paul does, people who make a small budget available to support him.
Together we will make of Airplanehome a grandiose and successful project!
As soon as the campaign is successfully finished, the productions of the rewards will start. The production will take place in the Netherlands. You will receive the rewards on the short term. However, there are four exceptions:
1. Boarding pass: you will receive the boarding pass on the short-term but you cannot use it until the Airplane hotel is completely finished
2. Wall of fame: You will be asked to send your pictures and the design will already be made. The wall will be visible as soon as the airplane hotel opens its doors.
3. Company name on the cockpit: as soon as the airplane is transported to its final place the airplane will be provided with a new coating. When this is taken place, the names of the companies, who had a highly valued contribution in the realization of the project, will be placed on the cockpit.
4. USB stick, the making off: the USB stick will be made as soon as the project is finished in order to include the total process of the project from the beginning till end. The USB sticks will be send one month after the opening of Airplanehome.
Although Paul Wijers has been working on this project for years, there is always the possibility that things do not go as planned. Sometimes, decisions need to be taken about things that do not go as predicted. Especially with these kind of unique projects it is difficult to predict the future.
Paul is aware of this. He values the communication with his fans about his dream project Airplanehome. Every two weeks after the completion of the campaign on Kickstarter, he will tell what the current situation is. Fans also get the chance to participate in the determination of the interior and the colour combinations. In this case, everyone one will be actively involved in this project.
