The first WHISPER project was a success that humbled me for the outreach and backing of the initial interested Backers. Now, we're back, this time to secure more funding for the WHISPER line.
These miniatures are 10-12mm scale figures, meaning that n-scale railroad terrain and likewise miniatures are compatible with them, but they are large enough to fit into 15mm scale games if you so wish.
The Tundra and Osiris/Obelisk are designed to be similar height to the Raptor and Sokar/Bastet from Wave 1, roughly 45mm in height.
Mecha WHISPER unlocked for this KickStarter.
You may select any number of each unlocked WHISPER mecha from this list below as part of your reward with the total amount your reward level allows.
PLEASE NOTE: All WHISPERs will be sent unpainted and disassembled. Painted images are just to show you what a WHISPER could look like after being painted.
What Is a WHISPER?
WHISPER is a military acronym for Walker, Humanoid, Integrated Suit/Pilot, Engagement/Reconnaissance.
With 75 different planets in various states of colonization by major Dominions and Powers, the WHISPER universe is one of ongoing exploration and development, but with rising tensions between Dominions that have staked claims on resource-rich planets in various sectors.
What does the funding go towards?
As before, our goals are to secure the funds for the following: Masters - The mecha are 3-D printed and then turned into metal masters that can be re-used to create the production molds. Production Molds - The metal masters are used to create rubber spincast resin molds. Initial Castings - WHISPER mecha are made of spincast resin. Resin is heated and poured into the molds, which are spun at a high velocity to fill the molds completely. After cooling, the molds can be separated, and the miniatures removed to begin the process of snipping, partial cleaning, and then bagging for shipping.
What's in the line-up for stretch goals?
Stretch Goal details In order:
Tundra - $2,300
First-generation WHISPER given continual upgrades to stay abreast with changes in technology. Utilizes a cockpit integral to the chest compartment, which often leaves the pilot vulnerable to incoming fire. Its Tiggs-Dyson generator is located directly behind the cockpit, as well, and it doesn't carry a great deal of reaction mass for space conflict. However, its ease of construction and maintenance make it a regular sight in many Powers' military forces.
Osiris/Obelisk - $3,400
Third-generation WHISPERs from the Throne Confederacy, designed on the base Sokar design and equipped with long-range Gauss cannon. Potbelly armor attachment is optional, but it is considered a good trade-off sometimes to absorb incoming fire. Due to the recoil, while planetside it is incapable of firing its main weapon on the move, instead having to brace itself.
Poseidon - $4,100
A large, heavy amphibious WHISPER designed by the Northern Martian Federation for home defense and also for export to coastline Powers. Standard Sea Hunter configuration is shown with the customary trident, torpedoes, and integral missile bays located in the shoulder mounts. The Gauss cannon on its right arm is not shown.
Poseidon Kraken - $4,700
Alternate arms with heavy-duty claws for close-quarters combat and a pair of integral DEWs (directed-energy weapons) make the Poseion Kraken a fearsome foe.
Scorpio - $7000
Towering over most every other military unit short of capital-class ships and spacecraft, the Scorpio is a fearsome opponent that WHISPER pilots treat with respect. Designed and produced by the once-fledgling Symbiosis Cyber Consortium, the Scorpio represents a major threat on the battlefield.
Kyzaghan - $9,000
A Russian WHISPER that has been widely exported in multiple variants. Its latest update makes it the equal of the Sokar, while cheaper variants are considered second-generation machines.
M-28 Clint - $11,000
A staple main battle tank of multiple Powers throughout PAC-NATO, the Northern Martian Federation and the Martian Republic, the Clint is armed with an autoloading 140mm smoothbore main gun, and a 20mm co-axial auto-cannon to deal with infantry threats. A crew of three mans it from a conventional layout, both tank commander and gunner in the turret, while the driver lies in the hull.
Sokar/Bastet Pose 3 - $14,800
A pose for the Sokar and Bastet that can either be used as a damaged WHISPER firing after being incapacitated, or the leg can be attached, implying it was only knocked down or jumped clear of incoming.
Type 4 Hathcock - $16,400
A lightweight tank armed with a Gauss cannon, the Hathcock was designed by the Symbiotic Cyber Consortium as a rapid deployment vehicle. A rugged, simple design, in addition to requiring a minimal crew of only two personnel make it a favorite of many Powers throughout the 'wild lands' of the Outer Sphere of humanity's colonies. It is conveniently just large enough to fit into most trans-atmospheric re-entry vessels.
Sokar/Bastet Pose 4 - $18,500
A dynamic running pose for the Sokar and Bastet.
Tundra Helix - $20,500
Designed for engaging harder targets with short bursts of 25 or 50 high-velocity 30mm sabot rounds, the Tundra Helix - named after the HC-003 Gatling cannon it carries - gives even third-generation WHISPERs pause.
Are They Just Renders?
No. If you were present for our first Kickstarter, then you're already aware that we have prototyped the Tundra, Osiris/Obelisk, and the Scorpio, have quotes from the production caster, and have the STL files cut so that it can be easily printed, cast, and master molds created. All available goals given are reasonable to create full production molds and, barring any miscasts, should be completed in good time.
I've taken a couple example pictures and shared them on the WHISPER Facebook Group, but here are a few for those who are new to the project.
Who Are You?
Let me introduce the men who helped create this.
First, the fine company of Impact! Miniatures who has agreed to produce WHISPER.
Second, Marchen Atelier, a group of fine 3-dimensional sculptors who have translated the two-dimensional drawings into sculpts for the caster.
Third, our artists John Seung and Elartwyne Estole, who granted use of their fantastic art and sketches for these mecha.
Finally, I am Brandon Keith Fero. Veteran, fan of all things mecha, writer, and now creator of the WHISPER universe and rules therein.
Where Is Wave 1?
If you're wanting to purchase WHISPER Wave 1 products directly, feel free to visit the store here: http://www.impactminiatures.com/index.php?option=whisper
Are These Exclusive to Kickstarter?
No. All the models that are funded will be made available for sale after our Backers receive their Rewards.
Based on advice from Impact! Miniatures and others, I will be charging shipping after the Kickstarter concludes based on the actual costs incurred to ship. This will be collected via the pledge manager, where you will let me know what WHISPERs you want in your reward after the campaign ends. This is so we can be fair to all our backers (shipping is rarely one size fits all). As a rough estimate, the pledges will cost about $5 within the US, $10 for Canada, and around $15 for everywhere else (Jam Team and Platoon levels could be $25). Shipping of the Kickstarter will be EU Friendly and should not incur any customs fees. Thank you for your understanding.
The WHISPER Rules?
WHISPER's rules are currently at alpha version 1.5, having gone through several revisions from the last time I shared them. However, I am maintaining my stance of making them free to download and play through the WHISPER Facebook Group. If that interests you, I hope to see you join us there for more painted miniatures, rules discussions, and a growing community of great fans!
What Happens Beyond These?
If the unthinkably incredible should happen and we fund all of Wave 2, I do not lack for future molds, although those are not planned for and have not been included. Still, I can assure you, Wave 1 was just the beginning, and Wave 2 is not the end.
Risks and challenges
All Kickstarters come with their own levels of risk and each may have challenges to overcome.
However, with Impact! Miniatures, I can say that such risks are vastly reduced, as they have successfully developed and completed over 37 Kickstarter projects (and still counting...) Marchen Atelier likewise has a reputation that is sterling among game developers.
With that in mind, I am continuing in my endeavors to create this wargame for everyone who is a fan of mecha, like myself, and I fully intend to see these rewards given to the Backers first.
Barring completely unexpected problems, I expect our goals to be hit within the timeframe allotted.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
