Hello! I'm Dallas, and I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. In September of 2014, I was attending an auction preview for an injection molding company. At this auction of mostly tupperware molds there happened to be a piece of computing history- the molds that made the world's best selling computer! With your help, we will put the original molds back in production!
I believe there is a community of people out there who share a love for this classic. Whether it's to change out the aging and discolored housing on your computer, or to simply have unique housing for your next computer modding project, these molds represent history and need another opportunity to make the housing for your 1980's computing classic.
I have done the leg work and have located a plastic injection company that is excited about this project. Let's get the molds back to work in 2015!
We have chosen the three colors of the Logo to be the limited edition colors that will be your reward for helping us with this project. These three colors will add a bit of style to the classic machine! These colors will be limited to 500 units and will never be produced again.
To see the computer renderings please check out all the photos on our facebook page.
What you will receive with your reward!
Included with every reward is the following (2 of each if you are a $69 or more backer, 3 of each if you are a $99 or more backer, 6 of each if you are a $195 or more backer):
1 Computer Housing Top
1 Computer Housing Bottom
1 KS64C Limited Edition Sticker Hand Numbered to 500
3 Screws to Attach the Top and Bottom Housings
4 Rubber Feet
Need Some More Style
This KickStarter will run for 30 days; however, as soon as the project is fully funded, we will begin work on production. The Injection molding company has stated that once the go ahead is given, they can have housings produced within a couple of weeks. So, there is a good possibility that this retro gem could be at your door by the end of April.
Risks and challenges
The one risk is that the molds have not been used in mass production in over 20 years. The molds have been stored properly and have been inspected, but there is a chance something that is not visible could be wrong with the molds.
It is unlikely, as the molds are high quality and were produced for high volume use, but this risk needs to be disclosed.
Realizing that delivering rewards to backers in a timely manner is so important to backers, I have already located the factory needed to complete fulfillment of the cases. Fulfillment of such size requires a team of dedicated people to ensure that every pledge is rewarded. I have managed to organize a team that is just as dedicated as I am to this project.
The last thing we need is your support!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
