Founded in 2008, Dirtball constructs only 100% eco-friendly, 100% made in the U.S.A. apparel. All of our polyester comes from recycled water bottles and our cotton comes straight from the cutting room floor.
We founded Dirtball with some strong DNA. Economic, Environmental and Social. All of our products must be made in the U.S.A. and all must be made from recycled cotton or recycled polyester (water bottles) or both. We support our community with our local skate, mountain bike and BMX tours or by giving to various local and national charities like 1% For The Planet, Habitat for Humanity and The Children's Security Blanket.
The Green Jean
Our latest creation, the Green Jean, is why we have come to Kickstarter. We need your help! If our goals are met we will sustain approximately 25 U.S. manufacturing jobs for 2 months, recycle thousands of water bottles and save hundreds of barrels of crude oil just from the Green Jean alone. It is up to us!

Some Facts on Plastic and Cotton
- 66 Billion bottles of water are consumed each year in the U.S.A. alone
- 51 billion plastic bottles go into U.S. landfills every year
- 2 million plastic bottles are used in the U.S. every 10 minutes
- 10 plastic bottles = 1 pound of polyester fiber
- It takes up to 750 years for a water bottle to decompose
- 1 ton (2000) lbs of plastic bottles recycled saves 3.8 barrels of oil
- 1 million plastic bottles recycled eliminates 180 metric tons of CO2 emissions from being released into the atmosphere

Sustainable Facts on Dirtball's 100% Eco Friendly Recycled Material
- Each Dirtball T-shirt contains 6.5 16oz. water bottles.
- All shirts printed with water-based or thialate-free ink.
- For every 100K tees we make we save approximately 916K gallons of fresh water
- For every 100K tees or jeans we make we keep between 700k and 1M water bottles out of landfills
- For every 100K tees we make keep approximately 14000lbs of cotton scrap out of landfills
- For every 100K tees or jeans we make we save approximately 8400 gallons of crude oil
- For every 100K pieces of gear we produce we sustain 15 U.S. manufacturing jobs for 1 year
Every Dirtball garment begins at the source – recycled plastic bottles and recycled cotton. Post-consumer plastic bottles are sorted according to color, stripped of their labels and caps, washed and ground down to shavings. These flakes are melted and extruded into a polyester fiber that is nearly identical chemically and functionally to virgin polyester. The cotton comes from industry scraps that hit the floor and would usually go to landfills. This is also sorted according to color and blended with the polyester to make a new fiber. The fiber is then spun into yarn and knitted into fabric to be cut and sewn into a garment.
Pre-sorting all the materials by color is absolutely crucial to the environmental impact of Dirtball. By avoiding dying the fabric in the manufacturing process, we are able to save tremendously on the use of water, energy and chemicals.
Dirtball also make a serious effort to align ourselves with other organizations that share our vision a few examples are the band Widespread Panic, The International Mountain Biking Association and The University of Vermont. From the people and organizations we sell to, to the companies we work with to produce Dirtball gear, Dirtball works to ensure that the impact of its products is considered in the widest possible scope. We consider the environmental impact of everything from our webpage designer to our printers, from our promotional materials to our packaging, from our office operations to our shipping. We always substitute digital for paper whenever possible and recycle everything that we can.
Risks and challenges
The risks and challenges we face are many but minimal. Our biggest challenge will be ensuring an on time delivery. We know we can get the jean made. But if we have a supply chain problem like a weaving machine breaking or the washing plant boiler going down it may slow delivery time. This is our largest concern. However this is not our first rodeo and have worked with all of our partners on other products so we are extremely confident that all orders will ship on time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
