Amanda Kay Boundy, Soprano
Who am I?
My name is Amanda and I am a classically trained soprano, but I didn’t start out that way. I grew up singing country music in a small town in upper Michigan. I discovered classical music when I was 16 years old and it just clicked in my voice. I’ve been singing ever since. Ultimately, I want a career on the opera stage. Currently, I am earning my Master of Music degree in voice performance at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore.
What do I want?
Instead of taking this summer off, I want to continue training my voice in a summer music program.
So what exactly will I be doing during this program?
I've been accepted to the Bay Area Summer Opera Theater Institute in San Francisco, CA. I've been offered the role of 2nd Lady in the main stage production of The Magic Flute (full orchestra, costumes, I'm hoping for wigs...the whole shabang). For my non-musical friends, I realize that my character doesn't have a name, but trust me, it is a bigger part than it seems! I'll also be preparing 2 opera scenes and some arias for a concert performance. Besides performing, I'll also be taking classes in Alexander Technique (again, non-musicians, this is a technique that teaches performers the proper ways to use their bodies effectively), acting, score reading, and the business of singing. I'll also have the opportunity to take lessons and have aria coaching with working professionals.
What I need?
Your support! All summer pay-to-sing programs are expensive, and BASOTI is no exception (not to mention the plane ticket to California). I need your support now in the hopes that someday, someone will actually be paying ME to sing for THEM, instead of the other way around.
The music business is tough, especially for classical singers. Help me get to the top of my game so that one day you can say, “I know that girl! I gave her money once.”
