About

Eli Barrington plays it off like it’s no big deal. To his friends, he’s still the uptight room mate who needs the house clean.

However, minutes into entering his old home, he encounters visions of the man who broke into his house. These visions taunt and torture him to his breaking point, and he must find it in himself to come to terms with the home invasion that de-railed his life. Personal, bloody, and darkly comedic, Eli and his Demon speaks to the horrors of trauma, and the strength we must all find in order to move on.

Deep Cuts:

Eli and His Demon is a simple story at its core. Eli confronts a terrible memory, and begins his recovery from it.

It’s one of the hardest things anyone has to do. We’ve all lived something through something traumatic, but the real challenge comes from re-living it in our heads over, and over, and over. The first step anyone has to take is admitting that there is a problem. Eli hasn’t done that yet, and that’s why he can’t move on.

I’ve never had anyone break into my house, but I’ve had to come back from some pretty dark moments in my life. I’m a “forget-about-it-and-move-on” kind of guy, but I’ve learned the hard way that repressing things only makes them worse. That is the driving philosophy of this film: Garret may be the one taunting him on screen, but Eli is doing this to himself. He’s just not doing it willingly. Who is?

With a dark atmosphere and a handheld style of shooting, our team looks to bring Eli’s mind to life with vibrant energy, and have the audience thinking long after the film is over.

Why Contribute to “Eli and His Demon”?

Eli and His Demon is a story that appeals to all lovers of dark, unsettling material. Recent successful films that resemble Eli’s story can be found in The Babadook, The Witch, or even non-horror films like Birdman. The drama and the tension comes more from the effect the monster has on the character, as opposed to the monster itself. Like all of those films, at its core is something very human that doesn’t need a supernatural edge to shine through.

What Your Money Will Go To:

Since Eli and His Demon takes place in one location with 2 actors, costs on the film are kept to a minimum. However, the visual style requires lots of time and equipment that raises the costs up more. Money donated towards the film will go to the following:

location fees - permits - insurance - catering - camera equipment - set decoration - wardrobe - transportation - sound & color mix

Once our funding goal has been reached, any additional contributions will increase the production value of the film, offset post-production costs and cover festival submission fees.

As startup film makers, raising money is one of the biggest challenges one has to go through. To show our gratitude and appreciation, there are also several cool perks you get for donating, which you can see to your right!

Risks and challenges

After our project is successfully funded, the biggest issue we foresee is finding a location to shoot. However, with location fees built into the budget, this should be a small problem at the worst.

Other than that, the risks and challenges involved with Eli and His Demon involve any other film set - coordinating several people to work together through a few hectic days, keeping things on schedule, etc. Everyone involved has worked on several films before, and cut their teeth on several student films over the years. Overall, we have to stay vigilant if we want to succeed - something any film-maker worth their salt knows to do.
