The mission of Circus Mojo is to teach and present the circus arts with a fresh perspective and encourage everyone to express their unique mojo - talent, zeal, confidence, drive and spirit! For the 9th year we are pleased to present the opportunity for area teens to experience an awesome cultural exchange with the Circus Mojo sister circus, CircArtive Pimparello in Stuttgart, Germany.
Circus Mojo will be bringing area teens for a three week tour to Germany. This will be the trip of a lifetime for many of the participants, some of whom have never even been on an airplane! This trip, however is not just a stamp in the passport. The teens preparing to tour to Germany have had to take the responsibility to EARN their way.
These students have diligently learned and practiced circus arts, helped clean and work to earn the opportunity and street performed in an effort to raise funds. There are no free rides on this tour.
We have shown time and again that the circus can open doors and expand horizons, but it also allows young people to get to know themselves, to push their limits and to achieve more than they could ever imagine.
Observations and Insight from the 2012 Circus Exchange
"As an observer of social circus, I have seen a lot of the good. Circus, in this context, helps with character development, mastering judgement, and, in my case, gaining experience with and growing confident in making business decisions." ~ Mike Blackmore, Circus Mojo's first Bearded Lady.
"I have grown up since the last time I was here (2008). I was 15 the first time and was a camper. This time I’m 19 (2012) and a teamer which means I teach and take care of the kids, but I still get to do some training. ... Sure, the responsibility is greater but the reward is so much better." ~Jesse Dascola, a long-time circus student and now chaperone.
"I never thought it would be possible to have an experience like this. For crying out loud, my career choice has always been to be a Navy SEAL. But now that I havebeen here in Rappenhof, Germany and attended eye widening classes like partner acrobatics, lyra, juggling, and much more, I have officially decided to make circus my career choice." ~ Jesse Suttles, Ludlow Resident.
Risks and challenges
Many of the challenges of the circus, the skills and talent have already been tackled and overcome by our group of teens. You have to EARN your way to Germany with hard work and tenacity as well as a "can do" attitude and ability to work as a team. For many groups, these are the challenges that must be overcome.
The greatest challenge of this project is the funding. We bring teens from all over the area and from every economic situation. The artists who have taken this tour in the past have earned over $1,000,000 in college scholarships. Focused and fearless artists created with international partners and lots of effort.
