A solo performance about our relationships with our bodies using interviews with people that explore age, gender, and identity.
BODY Play is an interview-based solo performance show that has been in the works since 2010. It grew out of an interest in the separation that many people hold between their bodies and their minds and how we can come to inhabit our bodies more fully. Kaycee and Kacey have been interviewing people from New York to New Orleans about their, often complicated, relationships with their bodies and how those relationships have been shaped over time. After inviting us into their homes for an afternoon of intimate conversation, some people revealed that their body was their playground, some their library, some their prison, but everyone had a lot to say. There is so little language in place to talk about our bodies, there are so many taboos surrounding these tools that we all have, and we'd like to start that dialogue right here.
BODY Play is now in the early stages of development and is being submitted to the 2012 New Orleans Fringe Festival. After the interview process is complete, we will be turning the interviews into a one-woman show, doing our best to bring these interviews to life in one body that will become twelve bodies.
Here's how you can help! We'll be using the funds that we receive to pay for the hefty Fringe application fee and to fund the production itself (costumes, props, lighting, a venue, etc.). We're also hoping to turn this into a touring production with any additional funding that we may receive so that we can extend this conversation as far as we can. We could also always use volunteers: ushers, crew, hecklers, so if you're in New Orleans and you'd like to help us out come November, shoot us an email!
(Unless you're a heckler).
Have a story to tell? If you have your own story to tell about your body, get in contact with us! We can set up an interview and it may become a part of this piece. We'd love to hear from you!
Thanks so much for any and all of your support! We really couldn't do this without you!
