What is this project about?
Hello! I'm Karthik, a Berlin-Based Indian Illustrator. I've always been fascinated mythologies from all around the world (as you can see from my eclectic collection of work on www.artofkarthik.com), but in recent times I’ve been especially inspired by Norse mythology featured in games such as the Banner Saga Trilogy and God of War 4 as well as movies like Thor Ragnarok.
I would like to share with you, my love for these Ancient Norse Gods, in the form of 10 papercraft boxdolls. My fascination for papercraft dolls started when I was a kid, when I couldn't afford to buy many toys. I used to look at toy catalogs and make my own crazy toys with just paper and glue! The aspect of creating something out of nothing, is the best part of all this.
Now I ask you again for your support to make this fun project a reality! I'd like to imagine that somewhere in a small Nordic village thousands of years ago, Viking children were happily running around, playing with little dolls of Thor or Odin! And perhaps we can capture some of that happiness in today’s world, with just a little bit of paper and glue.
What is the purpose of this project?
Decorating your home, Fun for kids & adults, Christmas Tree Ornaments, Learning about Mythology, Trophies for vanquishing your foes...er...no...thats not right, and in the right size could work for Tabletop Games :-)
Are the rewards physical or digital?
The last two tiers involve physical rewards, involving printed stickers and metal button pins, all of which will be sent to you via snailmail. The first three tiers are completely digital, in the form of PDFs that can be downloaded, printed and assembled.
Direct fan funding allows me to pursue the vision in my heart and create something unique and fun. With your support, I can create and share original papercraft dolls and other fun articles.
Where does the money go?
Researching, designing and building these boxdoll characters based on their history and mythology is a very time-intensive process. All of the earnings will directly go towards the design of the papercraft dolls, and the production of sticker sheets (high quality versions are a bit expensive to produce), icon stickers and metal button pins, as well as encourage the continued development of more fun projects like this in the future!
Are the boxdolls easy to assemble?
Yes, the boxdolls are fairly simple, taking around 5-10 mins per doll to cut out and assemble. I'll be regularly posting assembly videos and pictures of the assembled papercraft dolls, all backers will be able to see these updates.
What kind of paper should I use?
All of the boxdoll blueprints are printable in in both A4 ( 8.3'' x 11.69'') and US Letter (8.5'' x 11'') sized card-stock. Regular printer quality paper should work just fine. For higher quality, 65 lb or above card-stock can be used.
When will I receive the box doll blueprints?
When the campaign is over, I will send out a survey for you regarding your rewards. Once I receive your survey response, I will send out the blueprints within a few days via email. If you're also getting a custom avatar boxdoll, this may take a few extra days :-)
For the physical rewards, once Kickstarter is done with processing all the funds, I’ll begin production, quality checking and shipping, which should take about 6-8 weeks in all.
Where can I see more of your art?
Risks and challenges
I have already prepared designs for 10 Norse Mythology BoxDolls and just need to make some tweaks and adjustments for this project. I will be adding more designs for stretch goals, but since I'm an experienced illustrator and have designed papercraft dolls before, this won't be an issue. Since the basic rewards are all digital PDFs, and I also have experience with producing stickers and buttons, I don't foresee any problems with completing this project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
