The Factory, or "3F Project" as it's now being called, is the brain child of Dan Martin a retired (at 25) Boeing Aerospace Engineer and disabled Desert Storm Vet who left society completely 10 years ago to be 100% self-sufficient and live off the grid.
A completely, Free to dine and 'shop' grocery store and restaurant.
NO catches, NO hidden fees, No cash registers!
Where? Everywhere... We're building a Factory in EVERY city, EVERY country, for EVERYone!!!
The Factory offers free food to anyone and asks nothing in return. Imagine a locally grown, organic, non-GMO farmer’s market quality grocery store that offers healthy fruit, vegetables, seafood, nuts, spices, herbs, etc. Now imagine that it's all free. You walk down the aisles with your cart, get a little of this, some of that, eeew nice, Tilapia! And that's it! There are no cash registers, no cashiers, no costs. But don't expect us to bag it for you! Just kidding, of course we do that too!!!

The Free Food Factory, when built, will be a 60,000sqft natural and passive climate controlled facility, running on 100% solar and wind power, which will provide fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices, nuts, seeds, fish, shrimp, lobster, crab, oyster, mussels, escargot, as well as honey and honey products (we keep bee's for pollinating the crops) via (600) hydroponics bays and 100 hydroponically grown indoor trees, all fed by nutrient rich fish waste water from (3) 4000 gallon, in-grown fish farms.
For over 8 years now, we've had incredible success (as outlined in the video) doing exactly this on a smaller scale in Dan Martin's 4800 cubic foot, solar powered, climate controlled off-grid site, fed by (1) 1000 gallon fish tank growing fruits, vegetables, seeds/nuts, herbs/spices, seafood and much more.
We're currently seeing:
- 2X the production rate
- 2X the size of produce
- 2X the nutrient and sugar contents (from what we can test)
- 4X the quantity (from the indoor, year-round growing cycle)
- 99% less effort
- 99% less cost
- 99% less water
- 99% less loss
when compared to current annual industrial food production yield reports in the same zone, without the heartache of bugs, pests, cold spells, heat spells, droughts, fertilizing, pesticides or watering. Not to mention the protein aspect of growing fresh water aquatics.
Since we continue experiencing incredible results and have streamlined energy loss, time and efficiency growing the above plants, we'd love to continue with your help, growing the same types in The Factory. That said, we'd also like to try/offer some medicinal plants such as Aloe Vera, Citrenilla, Valerian, St. John's Wort, Tea Tree, Echinacea, Tilia, Clove, Ginseng, Lotus, Rosemary, as well as Rice, Wheat, Rye and Oat.
When you get right down to it, there are really only 2 types of costs involved in any 'business': 1) Initial or startup costs and 2) Daily costs of doing business (CODB). When Dan and Lucia Martin cashed in everything they owned and left society, they had a very large bank roll for all start-up costs, it was the CODB that they aimed (and succeeded) at eliminating. Imagine, no bills, no debt, no taxes, and no day-to-day expenses of any kind! With the help of Mr. Martin, we're going to take his proven process/technique and duplicate the results on a smaller scale in the Free Food Factory so that we can provide actual, true free food "at no cost to the recipients" OR "the rest of society!"
1) Start-Up. Elements that are needed to get the doors open and the public inside 'shopping,' such as land, conceptual drawings, blueprints, permits, material, labor, equipment (and LED lights,) publicity, stock and FDA licenses.
There are a few things we can do ourselves, but short of finding construction contractors willing to contribute their time and machinery, and donors to provide the land and materials, this is where the bulk of the $67k will be used...
Land - After a lot of research, we've decided on 1 of 2 locations that after being polled, have given the best results of reception to the idea of a 'Free Food Factory' type facility in their area....
College Station Texas and Nacogdoches Texas
Two teams of volunteers were sent out to view several commercial property locations in and around each of the above cities and have found the average cost per lot to be $50,000.
Conceptual Drawings - Both conceptual drawings and blueprints will be completed in house by engineer and architect team members from Dan Martin’s not-for-profit organization at no cost to the project. - $0
Blueprints - $0
Permits - For this size and type of project, construction permits will run us $1000 - $2000.
Material - The cost of steel fluctuates widely day to day, so we're estimating a safe margin here of $10,000 - $15,000.
The much needed solar and wind renewable energy systems are also being donated by Dan Martin's not-for-profit organization from left over relief work projects abroad. - $0
Costs for the remaining construction material in the past have run "approximately $30,000 on the high side" according to Martin.
Labor - $20,000, again for this size of project.
Equipment and LED Lights - We actually have an Angel Investor out of Houston who has already put up the money for the aquaponic systems (pumps, tanks, filters, plumbing, lighting, etc.,) on the condition that we replicate the factory for her overseas, and that we raise the rest of the money of course. - $50,000 (PAID)
Publicity - We've reserved $0 for a publicity campaign and marketing, counting solely on general word of mouth, social media and organic local and mainstream media coverage, so PLEASE SHARE OUR STORY!!! (#FreeFoodFactory) - $0
Stock - We already have more than enough stock (plants/protein) ready and physically waiting to start produce production and protein reproduction at the new facility. -$0
FDA License- Since The Free Food Factory is classified as a farmers market, not a food service establishment, (even though the food is free) by the Texas Department of State Health Services (§229.702), and no FHF/TCS foods will be available at The Factory, an FDA permit and food handlers permit aren’t required. -$0
2) CODB. As stated above, we'll be duplicating Martin's successful 6-year self-sufficient experience and knowledge in The Factory, thereby eliminating all CODB!
Utilities - $0
Staff - volunteers - $0
Materials - $0
Taxes - exempt - $0
Phase 1. Land purchasing.
Phase 2. Facility construction.
Phase 3. Installation of the natural and passive climate control system, solar/wind turbine arrays, solar water heaters, rain water catchment and distribution systems, hydroponic bays.
Phase 4. Stock relocation.
Phase 5. "Grocery store" style aisles installation, stands and shelving setup and front and back of the house volunteer scheduling and training.
Phase 6. Eventually, we also plan on partnering up with an existing free-to-eat restaurant franchise such as The Soul Kitchen or the Karma Kitchen and their team of volunteers for an on-site, free to eat dining experience! Talk about no transportation costs!
Franchising Out: Our first idea for The Free Food Factory was to purchase an existing, abandoned industrial building in the Houston or Dallas areas and re-purpose it into 'The Factory.' In the end however, it proved that purchasing unimproved land and starting from scratch would end up being 3-4x cheaper. We haven’t lost hope of one day recycling an entire building, however, and plan on duplicating The Factory in Detroit with one of the (now many) abandoned warehouses/factories. And the best thing is that they can't even give these buildings away. So, if we raise more than our goal of $67k, EVERYTHING extra will go towards the new facility/s. Who knows, you may end up seeing a Free Food Factory in your own town in a couple years!
·Research and Development - we have already completed the research and development stage, as shown in the video. A 6-year process that will end up saving the project YEARS of trial and error, and hundreds of thousands of dollars in costs/loss!
·Stock - at present, we have enough fruit, vegetables, nut, spice plants, fish, mussel, clam, escargot, shrimp and lobster available to start two new sites with a sizable margin for loss.
·Site Location - as stated, several locations have been scouted out.
Risks and challenges
"That "scaling up" will not be an effective resolution to our ongoing over- production and piling up issue/s and that we'll have to scale up (build another facility) again.
