Battle against waves of enemies to prevent them from breaching your defense to the heart of the Citadel.

The Defense of the Citadel is a cooperative hero defense board game for 1 to 4 players. In this high fantasy world, you as the hero need to defend the heart of citadel against waves of enemy invasion.

2 Game Modes

The heart of the Battle Goddess gives life to the Citadel. Waves of evil monsters from darkness are after its divine power.

You have two ways to start your 'Defense of the Citadel' -- 'Scenario' mode and 'Campaign' mode. 

'Scenario' has predefined settings, lasts no more than an hour to play, which is perfect when you just want a quick short game. It is the recommended way to get familiar with the rules of the game.

'Campaign' is the opposite with no particular predefined settings. It is a progressive game where you build your Citadel from scratch to an impenetrable fortress. Your performances and decisions through the phases as well as crafted items and wounds, will carry onto the next until you reach the final objective. 'Campaign' is meant for a long game, and you will need to record the status of the game to carry on the game on another day.

Customized Player Characters

One of the key game concepts of Defense of the Citadel is to offer players large amount of freedom of choices. It is designed that each game the player plays would be an experience as unique as possible.

This is also reflected in the setting up of player characters. After selecting the game mode, players need to select their characters. Each character represents a race in the world of 'Defense of the Citadel'. Each race comes with a unique set of racial traits, abilities, strengths and weaknesses.

For each character, the player can choose up to 2 classes they are proficient in out of 4, so that there are a total of 10 different combinations available to choose from!

Besides, there are 10 interesting skills per class to choose as your fighting skills, which you mix and match with your secondary class skills. Adding on top of that the equipment and items will make your character a one of a kind.

Preparing for Battle - Building & Crafting 

Before the enemy waves arrive, you make use of the time before the confrontation to balance the odds against you. The time can be spent on doing various actions, including crafting!

You can craft a wide variety of items such as weapons, armors, tools, consumables & traps. You can also recreate the citadel with new infrastructures and rooms!

When your preparation is completed, the invasion begins!

The enemy waves are constructed from the invasion cards. The number of invasion cards and the types are dictated by the number of spawn points and scenario conditions.

There are 2 types of invasion cards -- invasion 'units' and invasion 'events'. While units are a steady flow of enemy units entering the Citadel, the events happen every other turn. The event can be both good and bad (mainly bad) to the players. The randomization and possible combinations further enhance each game as a unique experience.

Cooperation

Apart from racial skills and basic actions (for example moving the characters or basic attacks), skills that can be used by the players are dictated by the class' skill cards. 

The game is lost when the heart of the Citadel is destroyed, the players must defend it at all cost. The player characters may be incapacitated if beaten in battle, but there is a chance you can muster your strength to get up again to fight. Better yet another player in the same square can give you the help to stand back on your feet. Cooperation is the key to the success of defending.

We all have our favourite board games, which represent all our good memories of fun time spending with family, friends, and loved ones. Those memories carry our old good time when all the physical touch of board games counted. 

There are on earth a lot of important board games from the past created in the Western countries, which are truly fun and have gained popularity throughout the world. Not many were created in Asia. 

Our core creator, who was born in Tokyo, Japan, raised in Hong Kong, a highly multi-national city, has a true heart of making games which can represent Asian style, in terms of aesthetics and gameplay, and being able to share with the world, is our faith.

Here is a rough breakdown of where we are with the overall progress of the game development:

Text (storyline, flavor, narration, scenario, proof-reading): 30%    

If the project is funded, we can resume on the development from August 2017. We will give regular updates on the progress of the game on this Kickstarter page.

Our aim is to deliver the game no later than August 2018.

Shipping fee will be charged through the pledge manager after the campaign.

Here is a list of rough estimates for shipping a standard game package.

After the campaign we will send everyone a survey to obtain all shipping and pledge information.

Risks and challenges

This is a relaunch of our last campaign. There were many topics we discovered from the experience. We retry this time, and we are pleased to show you an improved version. We feel very grateful for the supports from all the previous backers and all the coming ones.

The majority of the game art has been completed. We keep our pledge and offering fairly simple to make sure our fulfillment can be carried out precisely.

We are so glad that many have approached us to offer helps and supports. Those are very valuable inputs which help us keep growing.
