Counting down & collecting cans
This will be the last post before opening day. I feel a bit nervous saying that after all the delays but I'm pretty confident that we will finally open our doors next week some time - the day will depend on the council!
Thank you to everyone who filled out the rewards survey. I know some of you had difficulties so if there is anyone who is yet to complete it but has been unable to, please email me - email@example.com.
It's an exciting time at the moment. Our beautiful coffee machine arrived last week, the furniture is in place and our outdoor room is complete! All that remains is for us to work on those finishing touches while the kitchen is installed. Everything is coming together nicely!
This has been a long journey for us - we first began working on this project nearly two years ago! We are so grateful for your patience and support and thankful for the many opportunities that we have been given throughout our lives that have led us to this point.
Watching Campbell Live this evening I was reminded that many children grow up without the privileges I received. Poverty in New Zealand may be a complex problem with multiple causes, but the simple fact is that kids in our communities are going to bed hungry. We think that this is unacceptable.
This Thursday, in support of Campbell Live's Lunchbox Day, I will be on site at Open Table between 10-12 giving away coffee in exchange for cans of spaghetti/baked beans or donations to KidsCan. If you can't make it on Thursday but still want to donate a can or two, feel free to drop them off to the café any time before Friday if you notice us around! You can also donate $3 to KidsCan by texting 'lunch' to 2448. To find out more, visit http://www.3news.co.nz/tvshows/campbelllive/empty-fridges-highlight-kiwi-poverty-2014090119
Thanks again for your support and we look forward to seeing you at Open Table!
