This is a project to provide Dwarf gamers with that essential piece of terrain that is often called for but not commercially available: a brewery. And what is a brewery without a full staff of Dwarfs to run it? There's the meticulous Brew-Master carefully watching over his secret recipe, his staff of brewery workers, welcoming Innkeepers, etc. The brewery is set into a hillside with rocky outcroppings surrounding its walls and a mountain to its back. The model will offer interior detail including resin pieces like a brewer and bar for the Inn. The brewery can be used as a set piece in an epic battle between Dwarfs and Orcs or any other common enemy, as well as a center piece for role-playing games.
PLEASE NOTE: The Brewery is a work in progress as we welcome any suggestions as it is being built.
The goal of this kickstarter is to provide these items to the 28mm fantasy gamer in the form of a light weight, high density brewery that offers strong walls for protection as well as an Inn for Dwarfs and travelers to quaff a fine Aule Ale in peace and safety. The brewery will also feature an assortment of resin pieces:
Brewery will have the following in resin: Brewer, Fire Pit, Grain Box, wood Box, Brew Masters desk and wall shelves with books and scrolls.
INN will have a bar, barrel wall and possible up stair divider walls.
General well and some loose barrels.
The brewery will be made of a light weight, high density foam, so the building will be light weight for it's size (about 2'X2'), but very durable. High density foam is easy to paint and is not affected by super glue making it easy for individuals to add their own artistic touch to the brewery. High density foam also allows for very good detail throughout the model. Making the brewery in this fashion allows us to make a larger model, rather than just a single building that sits out in the open; what Dwarf in his right mind would keep his treasure out in the open for anyone to plunder and steal!
UPDATE #7 THE MAIN GATE
On each side of the main gate, along the upper walk ways are doors so that a Dwarf can move from one side of the walls to the others without the Gate blocking the Way.
The next two photos are of the additional roof for the Brewery. Thus, the Brewery will have two options to choose from, a platform roof for a bolt thrower or cannon, or the second choice will be standard roof with singles.
UPDATE #6 THE BASE AND BACK WALLS ARE DONE!
The following pictures now show the rock work around the base of the Brewery as being done. The photos will also show the mountain back drop that the whole complex is set against.
UPDATE #5 THE ROCKY WALL BASE AND GATE
The Rocky base of the Brewery on the Inn side going around to the Gate
The gate is in process. The logo on the gate will be a stein of Ale, or if you people want, I can leave that space blank and provide the logo in metal if someone wants to glue it on. This leave the option open to the gamer to decide what to put in that area. The back side of the gale will be posted tomorrow with more photos of the back wall.
UPDATE #4 THE WALLS AND COURTYARD
Here are some images of the walls and courtyard of the Brewery. I have made one change to the back wall between the brewery and Inn. The change made was to make the back wall look more like the mountain which is the Brewery structure is built next to. The mountain serves as place for the busy Dwarfs to store their Ale. But, is that all they stored within the mountain?
UPDATE #3 THE FINISHED INN
The following pictures will show you that the second and roof areas of the Inn are now finished (with one small exception and that can not be done until the walls are finished and in place). The second level is now done on the inside and out.
Just image the great hall of second level of the Inn with three tables in an "H" shape. Around these tables are 12 or so Dwarfs enjoying a great banquet, eating, drinking and boasting of their great deeds. They are being served by staff of the Inn.
Here is a picture of the second level of the Inn that faces into the courtyard. There is door that opens up the wall that runs along the back of the brewery to the second level of the Brewery.
The next picture is of the reworked stone work for the lower outside level of the Brewery. I have read were some would like this smaller, but I do imagine that a strong protective fortress would large stones at ground level, making the walls harder to destroy by ramming.
I will have more photos this coming week of the walls. The gate will be the last thing finished, as it will have to be a piece that slides into spot for casting purposes.

The above set of photos show you the base of the brewery, the brewer, fire box and grain box that will come with the brewery.

The T-Shirt being offered by Iron Hill Miniatures salutes the fine Aule Ale crafted in this Dwarf Brewery. Aule Ale is created from a secret recipe passed down since the formation of the Dwarf race.

This update is to give some select pictures of certain parts of the Brewery. Remember, as stated in the video, the brewery is not yet completed; we are seeking feedback from you, the gamer, to finish the model. One suggestion has already resulted in a change: We added grid work so that figures would be easier to move when using the Brewery.
This Update will center on the Inn part of the Brewery which is the largest part of the structure. The Inn is made of three pieces. The first is lower half with the inn. Right now two of the walls are left bare. I would like to put in a wall of kegs on one side. Or, perhaps you have a suggestion for something else that would be more interesting?
The second level is currently open. I was working on making some wall dividers that would be resin cast, so the gamer could create their own rooms. This level would also include some furniture for the rooms similar in style to what was seen in the Lord of Rings. I did have one suggestion that I really liked: make the upper level a banquet hall. The banquet hall would have a long table with about 12 Dwarfs around it feasting and making merry.
The third area is the roof with a balcony. You will only be able to put Dwarfs on the Balcony and not inside the roof area.
Suggestions can be submitted to any of the following; Kickstarter; Our Blog (http://ironhillminiatures.blogspot.com/ ); or to our face book page (www.facebook.com/pages/Iron-Hill-Miniatures/418376758282501)
To give you an idea of what a finished model might look like, I have included two photos of a different model that I have built for Blue Moon Manufacturing. The gray model is the master before getting sent to the mold maker. The brown building is a casting that has been painted. The rock work around the base of the structure will be what the rock work around the base of the Brewery will be. It should be noted that this model is 28" long by about 24" wide and about 10" high and only weights about 10 pounds.
In the next day or two, I will show some select photos of the Brewery and its interior. I will try to include some photos of the bar for the Inn.
Risks and challenges
I have been in the business of providing miniatures for table top gaming for over 15 years. All the people that I am counting on for the sculpting, molding and the production of the Brewery model I have worked with in the past. They have always delivered on time and with very good work.
The sculptor for the Dwarfs has worked with most of the leading miniature manufacturers, as well as various toy manufacturers. The molding of the dwarfs will be handled in house.
The Brewery will done by a leading foam manufacturer who have I have worked with now for over 5 years. Since this project will take us into the fall, normally his busiest time of the year, delivery of foam items will not be until
The high cost of postage on the Brewery is due to the fact that it is shipped according to box dimensions not weight.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
