Help this University of Illinois jazz a cappella group produce its first album in more than five years!
You’ve found us! We are No Strings Attached from the University of Illinois, and boy, are we glad you’re here. Right now we are done with recording our latest album, In Sync (get it?!), but we need help with some of the costs associated with production and distribution.
As a group, we are completely student-run and specialize in a cappella jazz. We also sing pop, the occasional classic rock hit, and whatever else our group members choose to arrange. Each group member puts in nine hours of rehearsal time per week, and we also compete and collaborate with other groups across our university campus and the state of Illinois.
As a part of our mission to spread the music that we love creating, we have toured high schools in the Champaign-Urbana, Chicago, and St. Louis areas. On campus we sing at fundraisers, sporting events, and occasionally use guerilla tactics while spontaneously singing in dorms, dining halls, and the occasional bar or restaurant. Just to clarify, we really enjoy singing. A lot. Generally when at least four or five of the ten group members are together, someone will be able to coax a song or two (or seven) out of us.
We recorded our album with the invaluable help of Champaign’s own Pogo Studios between March and November 2011. In Sync features our renditions of jazz standards along with other finger-snapping songs originally recorded by artists like Ben Folds, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, Extreme, Company of Thieves, and more. Our goal is to have this album completely ready and available in time for our spring concert on April 14th. We have some money saved up, but we won’t be able to reach this goal alone!
This is where we need your help and we’re definitely planning to make it worth your while. We would really appreciate your fundraising support, and to show this appreciation, we have some ways of saying thank you. First, check out our video above if you haven’t already done so. You’ll be able to learn a bit more about each of us and what we are trying to do with this project. Next, check out our rewards to the right. You’ll see some of the standard ones, sure, but you’ll also hopefully find a few that you did not expect.
Finally, be sure to back our project and to check back for updates! As we get incrementally closer to our goal, as a matter of personal sacrifice, each of our group members has pledged to do something that he or she deems incredibly uncomfortable or unpleasant. One plans to give an incredibly impassioned and moving speech in support of republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich. Another one plans to dress up in her Justin Bieber garb and bust out in song and dance in a store in Campustown. For each of these acts, there will of course be a video. So keep donating--if not for the personal rewards, then for the enjoyment that everyone will hopefully receive by watching us do what we do best: making complete fools of ourselves.
Thanks for your support! We hope to see you at our spring concert at U of I’s Spurlock Museum on April 14th, at 8 pm. For more about us, go to http://nostringsillinois.webs.com/, or find us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/pages/No-Strings-Attached/8804964516.
