The filmmaker seeks to tell the story of the American Chorister, as experienced through the lives of those in, around and influenced by The Choir of Saint James, in mid-city Los Angeles, California. Through stunning imagery, cinematic artistry, and expressions of sound and music, the viewer witnesses human truths emerge in an appreciative, contemplative and at times spiritual manner.
As several documentary films exist in the world of classical music, more specifically in the boy-choir-centered Church of England, most are of a sterile, dry and educational form. Although informative, few seem to point to the hidden microcosm of the incredible and impassioned labor of the classical church musician, and virtually none exist featuring the American community. The target audience for such films is almost equivalent or as hidden as the community itself. This film targets the average "un-churched" American, and explores this world and reveals several paths to a guided experience.
Risks and challenges
For this project, we hope to involve choristers off all traditions and in all areas of our nation, to tell the story of the impassioned, dedicated, sometimes struggling artists of our time. The #AmericanChorister social media campaign will help to drive awareness of this project. See more at www.americanchoristerfilm.com
Our current total budget for this project is $25,000. This Kickstarter campaign helps fund a portion of our start-up costs, film crew and major cinematic production expenses. Please continue to give throughout the duration of our filming as you see the need to make this project of artists come into being.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
