We already have smartphones. We already have smart TVs. We already have smart thermostats. Now we can have smart households as well. It’s called bubee.
We realized a dream of ours that can become your home’s most fundamental element based on our personal experiences. Our inspiration is a magnificent little creature, the bee. We’ve known since Einstein just how important bees are - without them humans would get wiped off the Earth in a matter of years. Merging bees with our idea we created a product that - not unlike bees - can easily become an important part of our everyday lives. That’s how our little hard-working bee, bubee, was born.
We live in an ever-progressing “smart” world in which our homes are becoming increasingly “smarter”. We have smart TVs, alarm systems, thermostats, but there’s still something we need to keep an eye out for: our stocks at home ranging from food through cosmetic goods to detergents and other miscellaneous items. Bubee’s intelligence is similar to that of bees: it’s a system for home use that not only reforms but completes the idea of a smart home. Bubee is your own smart and meticulous bee that helps making your life easier.
Bubee is none other than a barcode scanner equipped with the newest of technologies that currently in its test run can recognize the barcodes of about 500,000 products including food, cosmetics and other household items. As bubee is constantly getting developed further and further, the range of barcodes increases, so once you get your bubee, you can start using it with a full database in it. In case you want to scan an item bubee doesn’t recognize, the system automatically sends us the code that we add to the database with all the necessary information so with an update it appears in your stock.
All you need to do is scan your freshly bought products’ barcodes before/whilst putting them away. Suddenly not only your kitchen, but your entire household is smart from top to bottom.
It’s important that you tell bubee when you run out of something - before throwing away the empty packaging, scan the barcode once again.
The system is smart because it learns. It remembers the average amount of time you take to run out of something. For example, if you use up a tube of toothpaste in a month on average, bubee reminds you a few days before the predicted time you run out of it again and adds the product to your shopping list. This way you won’t finish a product without already having replacement.
Bubee also knows the expiry dates of your items and reminds you of the expiry dates; therefore, you can use a product in time instead of having it go to waste. The expiry date monitoring function of bubee can be used in two ways. You can set it to fully automatic monitoring, or you can manually enter expiry dates for certain products. Manual setting should be used when you buy products on sale, with shelf life presumably shorter than usual. This function can be fully switched off.
Bubee helps you check the products already opened and in use: it monitors the time of purchase and the time when the product is finished; and thus, it learns the average time it takes to run out of the product. Checking the amount you have left of something is easy - bubee shows you an estimated percentage of the product of your choice based on the time you usually take to run out of it. For example: you have an open bottle of shaving cream at home and bubee can tell you it’s about 50% full, thus helping you figure when you’ll have to buy some more.
Bubee lets you create a group with multiple users, meaning everyone in the household can update the system to keep you up to date with fresh data. A server synchronizes all the user activities in the group and shows all users up-to-date data, wherever they are.
bubee helps you create the ideal list - it tracks your usual consumption of products and compiles a list of what you actually need! You can finally forget having to worry about over-buying or lacking something important.
The barcodes stored in bubee’s system make sure you get the exact product you wanted. If you want to shop based on your auto-generated shopping list, you don’t have to worry about stocking in either, the system automatically, that is without scanning, places your new products into your inventory!
No problem! You can check what you have at home from wherever you are, you can even see if you have the ingredients for your favorite recipe, so you know whether you should buy something or not.
Our biggest question in the process of making bubee was which platform to release bubee on. After considering several options, we cast our vote on Kickstarter since this platform is where great ideas meet great audiences who are open to new concepts and are not only interested but supportive of these projects. We hope Kickstarter’s community welcomes Bubee.
bubee black edition will be available after we reach the 300,000 USD stretch goal.
No problem! Just use our bubee x-mas voucher so you can give it as a gift to your loved ones!
The bubee team is a young team who came together to solve an everyday problem by creating something completely new that can become a fundamental part of our lives, just like bees are important in the cycle of nature - and human life. The bubee team is a diverse team: we have graphic designer, engineering professor, marketing manager and professional organizer team members. Our passion for and commitment to bubee made us a well-synced team. Our professional diversity and experiences in our own fields all helped us shape bubee so that it could become a useful tool in everyday life.
Why bubee? Because it’s hard-working, kind and does good for humanity, just like bees do. That’s how our little sedulous bee, bubee, was born.
Whenever we create something new, there’s always a slight risk of making mistakes and unexpected circumstances arising. We did our very best to eliminate the chances of something going wrong. We tested a whole army of prototypes to reveal any possible faults that bubee could have. We kept an eye on the process of manufacturing and picked out and tested random bubees so that you get a perfectly functioning device. Designing the packaging is at the end of the process, so after closing the successful Kickstarter campaign, we can immediately start producing, packaging and delivering your very own bubee.
